  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Dear all,
I'd like to know if you have any advice on how to focus on my studies.
I'm going through quite a few issues (nothing TOO serious) at home and in my relationship, as well as working full-time (in a wonderful, not-too-stressful job).
I also have a 3000 word paper due on Sunday (it's Thursday 3pm now); I've written most of it, but am finding these other distractions too much to focus on my university work.
I'm home at the moment, alone with the pets - work was kind enough to give me a few days off to finish my paper. But it's times like these where I get most distracted and find other things to do, and worry about. The work is not going away, but neither are the nagging issues.
Any advice?

A.

Gather everything you need to complete the paper, make a lunch, and head out to the library. Leave your phone at home. When you get to the library set a goal on how much you want to do before you eat lunch. Complete it, then set a goal on how much you want to complete before you leave.
Hope this helps

Everyone has problems with procrastination. I've reached the point in education where I'm teaching classes instead of taking them, and I still struggle with it sometimes.

Your paper is mostly done, so this isn't applicable right now, but my long-term advice is that you should do something to make your papers fun or interesting. For example you could try creating a thesis that's completely insane, and do your best to rationally defend it. If you're uncomfortable with that it's okay. Just do something, anything, to make it fun. If you're enjoying yourself you can get lost in the work, and it will act as a distraction from your personal drama.
