• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am going through one of those periods where I am really struggling with feeling down and just absolutely hating my life!
And when I get this way I don't believe for one moment that anyone really cares!
I really do hate my life! For many reasons. Most of the time I can keep the neg thoughts at bay and roll with my life anyway.
I just get so caught up in the fact that nothing will change till God calls me home and I can't wait for that day to be free!
I feel so alone and empty~~feel disconnected from God. **tears**
At times I am angry with Him for making me stay in this life~~what I call my living hell.
So much of it has to do with my dixs and the choices I have made in life out of my dixs. Life is just so very hard for me and its one of those times where I am feeling very overwhelmed by it and very down!!
So I said all of this to ask you to pray for me~~k

Theresa, here are some words of encouragement for you. I hope you will be feeling better today!

Isaiah 61

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.

The Lord will give you a crown of beauty in place of your ashes. (((hugs)))

And remember "faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase yet."

Hi Theresa,

Yesterday was the first time I read Isaiah 61. (I'm not all the way through reading the Bible yet -- about halfway).

The Lord showed me that yesterday and my Spirit inside me said "this is for Theresa".

But, you know what Theresa, God wanted me to have it yesterday, too. So you gave me a great gift by leading me to that verse.

That's the amazing grace of God working for both of us!

Still praying for you! :prayer:

Hi Theresa,

It's wonderful to see people encouraging you and I hope what I have to say is an encouragement as well. I relate to much of what you're saying, as I'm sure we all do. Of course, I'm completely unfamiliar with what you have dealt with in your life, but a couple things came to mind when I read your post that I hope are helpful to you.
You said you sometimes hate your life and feel angry at God for forcing you to continue living it. I have often felt this way myself, but is it really "life" you hate, or do you hate the experiences you've had that have caused you pain? Is it "life", or is it the long term damage left in the wake of those who've devalued and mistreated you (and perhaps still do)? It is so critical to make a distinction, because as long as "life" is the issue, we face a problem too vague to direct our intentional recovery process toward. Does this make sense? If I hate "life", what do I confront and change? If I recognize, however, that one of the things I really hate is specifically the way a certain person bulldozes my boundaries, I suddenly have something specific I have power to confront and change. By overgeneralizing, we give up our power to change.

You've expressed anger at God, which I also relate to and is a normal part of the recovery process, but what about anger toward the abusers? I've learned that we really need that anger to bring about healthy changes. Sound strange? When we experience abuse, we feel very deep pain and we "learn" that we are powerless to stand up against it. Unresolved pain becomes unresolved anger and can come out in unhealthy ways, but the anger at how we've been treated can come out in very healthy ways, too, providing the emotional energy we need to begin setting appropriate boundaries and refusing to be mistreated. In this way we suddenly see that we are not powerless. We are filled with a sense of healthy power: power to change those things that for years have beaten us down and power to experience life the way God intended. So much of the negative emotions we deal with come not only from the past but also from failing to set boundaries with people or with ourselves in the present, which is something we all struggle with!

God bless you in your journey.

TY Alcamo~~
I am feeling some better. Its life circumstance I hate~things I cannot change. Things I am stuck with no matter what~~
I am not angry at God persay~~I just wish He would hurry up and take me home~~don't we all wish that?
I made some very life changing decisions out of my unhealthiness yrs ago~~things I can't change even though I am now healthier. In my healthiness I would not of made those choices.
So now I live the rest of my life stuck in a place I hate b/c of those unhealthy choices. But I know if I keep my eyes on my foundation He will see me through.
