Struggling with tounges

We have had people sing in tongues in the assembly and interpret it. It caught me off guard at first, but The Holy Spirit witnessed to it. True singing in tongues by The Holy Spirit, not the type where you put a tune behind your prayer language, but the type when The Holy Spirit is activating the gift through you in the assembly,...is beautiful.

Wow...I've totally done this but I felt so unsure about it and I didn't think it was real. It felt so beautiful, like you said...but I guess Satan felt otherwise, and that's what led to my self-doubt. Where does it mention this in scripture?

It doesn't happen much, but it is unique when The Holy Spirit does it. That section of scripture is not as clear on it as it should be, but the ability to sing in the spirit is known.

The tongue of angels is our prayer language or the langauge prompted by The Holy Spirit in the assembly.

By scripture, you would have these 4,..

-Praying in tongues by our spirit,

-Speaking in tongues by The Holy Spirit (assembly)

-Speaking in 'known' tongues (acts 2)

-Singing in tongues

I have done new songs in tongues in assembly worship before - I lead worship. I always considered it just one of the utterances I've been given to pray/sing. I've prayed in several utterances and sung in several different utterances/tongues. But I don't count each one as a different scriptural type of tongues. I count all of these under praying/singing in the spirit.

I count the tongue(s) of angels as different than our prayer and singing utterances, because we are men, not angels, and Paul made a distinction between the speaking of men and angels.

Like I said, I have experienced in spiritual warfare having the Spirit give me a very UNIQUE utterance different from praying/singing in spirit in one of those utterances of that type. The spirits (demonic and angelic) understood that utterance and responded immediately.

I could be wrong, but I have always thought that such was a tongue of angels the Spirit gave me to speak at that time only - I can't do it whenever I want, just like in some utterances I've sung in, I can't do whenever I want like my NORMAL prayer tongue.

So, maybe there are actually FIVE types. Or maybe we are just each doing the best we can to explain something mysterious to us right now - as we don't really know how all of the different kinds of tongues work, technically. But we can experience them in the Body!! That is the good news.

I agree it is unique when the Holy Spirit gives one of us an utterance to sing a beautiful song in spirit, but I think it falls under the category (same) of praying/singing in spirit. The Spirit can given us different utterances for this. As I've said, I've prayed in the spirit in several different utterances. There does sound like there is one primary utterance I pray in, but I pray in different utterances at different times. For example, I've noticed that when I'm praying over a spiritual hindrance or battle in my life, there is an utterance I've been given I pray in that is different than when I'm just praising/thanking normally throughout each day in tongues. The utterances sound totally different, but have structure - words, sentence.

The one when I'm being more like a "prayer warrior," sounds much more guttural and hard, with forceful sounds and word delivery. My regular prayer tongue for thanksgiving and prayer sounds much softer and has a whole different feel.

Then there is one I pray in when I'm seeking direction - I discern all this in the spirit - what I'm praying for or about.

I even pace back and forth and sound like I'm preaching sometimes when I pray in tongues.

This is why I thought that a song utterance that comes on me, or others, falls under the category of praying/singing, though there are MANY different utterances we can be given for such.

No I would say he was describing the gift of tongues as the angelic language. We have been given this spiriutal language as our new kingdom language, and the only way to describe it would be as angelic.

The singing in tongues that happened in the assembly was by The Holy Spirit. I have the gift of discerning of spirits and The Lord uses that gift in the service to identify what is of The Holy Spirit and what isn't.

It surprised me and quite a few others when it happened, but the guy gave an interpretation afterwards, and it had Exhortation, Edification, and Comfort in the message.

I feel the same way. I don't speak in tounges but I think it's because I don't let myself go spiritually because I feel like I'm being looked at or stared at or that I'll be found out to be a "fake Christian" but I know it's not true. I think that it's the enemy playing on your self - consciousness because they don't want you to have such an intimate relationship with God.

I heard someone singing in tongues and I was able to tell what song they were singing and all.
