  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everybody. Forgive my rambling,

I would appreciate prayers for something I've just realized. I'm still struggling with many base, random, complex, and ultimately and profitless thoughts that run rampant in my head. Sometimes I end up being lost and drifting away in my thoughts that I totally end up losing touch with reality as it is. I still pray the Jesus prayer and other prayers to drift these empty thoughts away and to keep my mind simple, but I don't think it's enough.

What's worse is that at points in my life, I'm reminded of my past mistakes and sins, even when I try to repent for them. It gets me depressed inside when I try to forget about them and move on.

The point is: I'm trying to see more of God in my life and know that I'm in his favor, no matter how eff-ed up I can be (pardon my language). My thoughts keep getting in the way and all I seek is a simplicity and peace of mind and soul and to make it matter in front of people with the works I do.

Your prayers are appreciated,

Jade

Remember as we seek to get closer to God the evil one will try to divert us in every way. Continue to pray and seek God and eventually you will overcome these tendencies. It will be a lifetime battle with the evil one as when we think we have overcome some attack he will find another to focus on.

I would talk to your priest about it. He should be able to give you great advice on how to overcome those thoughts. Do you say the Jesus Prayer audibly when you say it? That does seem to help me get the thoughts out of my head. Also, my priest pointed out that those thoughts aren't coming from me, but Satan will make you think that they are. Those thoughts aren't mine til I accept them. I do have trouble with daydreaming and I want to get better about saying the Jesus Prayer more so that I won't do that.

I had an Orthodox priest and a wonderful poster in this very forum tell me something very wise that I'll never forget: with salvation and the Christian victory, it's not about WINNING the race with Our Lord...it's about staying IN the race! That's very Pauline.

We're not called to be track stars, just athletes that get up when they fall down and stay to the finish line....

Hang in there, brother. Read my IM to you. Blessings in His Name.
