Normally I avoid Star Trek/Wars games, but I snagged the first STEF game for a buck and it wasnt terrible. Not the best, but not horrible.
So I saw the demo for EF2 and I figured I'd give it a shot.
The demo has crashed every single time I try to run it. Im not sure how to quit because I can usually play for a minute to five minutes before a critical error shows up.
The worst part is the new tricorder. The tricorder doesn't actually function the way you think it would. Its used almost exclusively to re-route power and perform a handful of other computer functions. To open doors, you sometimes have to re-route power to the door. This involves playing a mini-puzzle game where you have to rotate pipes and connect them together from a power outlet node to an input node, all while avoiding short circut nodes that basically re-set the entire thing. This is all while the world goes on around you and monsters can be sneaking up on you
To make things even MORE fun, theres a countdown timer. The timer isnt active during a normal re-route, but presumably it activates when a time critical action needs to be performed. The puzzles arent hard, but they are time-consuming and its easy to mis-click and short out the power and re-set the entire board. This doesnt fit well with a run-and-gun shooter where you have to stop for ten minutes to re-power a door.
From what little I've seen, the rest of the game isnt much more imaginative and looks to be basically a graphics upgrade of the original.
If you can get it for free, go ahead. But I wouldnt spend ANY money on it
