Hawking is not a pope, bishop, or priest of atheism. He is a scientist who has his own views, but no atheist is bound to them.

The fact you keep trying to tie it to pagans and religion tells me you are trying to put it in a box you understand. The thing is, the only thing atheists agree on is there is no reason to believe in a god. Just that one point. Everything else is left up to the individual. Once you wrap your head around that I think you will see why what you insist it is, it is not.
