This is becoming a GA thread. Lets just say that if God existed and wanted me to believe, s/he would know what it would take.
Since I have not received evidence to believe that a divine god exists, I don't believe. You experience may be different, but don't expect it to sway me unless you have good evidence.

there is indeed a sound, rational reason for "believing in god".

Man, no problem with me on your perspective. Why can't you just blindly trust S. Hawking? He wrote on people around: "we are just robots." So please, let me function as I'd like. What harm I am doing to your brain? All are going into the grave, so let my fun be. O.K.? Secondly, according to my Teacher, the atheists are pagans, only more primitive ones. Why? All pagans have wrong thoughts about God. The mistake of atheists: "The Source of the Existence is not existing". It is crazy! Just that stuff, what damned nihilism provides.

Edit: That said, the story of Jesus doesn't convince me anymore for many reasons that I will not go into here. Nor do many other religious books and stories.

First off, I was not indoctrinated into religion from an early age.
Most religious people were indoctrinated into religion from an early age. The evidence for that is that most christians have christian parents; most muslims have muslim parents; most hindus have hindi parents, etc. Further, most sunnis have sunni parents, most catholics have catholic parents.

On the other side are thousands of creation stories from thousands of cultures across the history of mankind. All as persuasive and as unpersuasive as any other. All written by early man in an attempt to understand "where did all this come from?".
On the other side is what mankind has learned over the centuries. People in many varied specialities including, but not limited to; archeologists, nuclear physicists, paleontologists, astronomers, biologists and geneticists. All building upon the findings of their predecessors. All using technology that was not available 6000 (or even 100) years ago. All agreeing that the earth was not created 6000 years ago. All agreeing there was no worldwide flood around 4300 years ago.

Not sure anyone with faith in the LORD would claim a sound, rational reason for 'believing in god" is the evidence.

If you tend to atheism (which is primitive paganism), then you must be the most educated in this dim area of Philosophy. Therefore, please, read all the bestsellers of the leading atheist: S. Hawking. Then come back for talks. Man, if you discover the hell in afterlife, then let it not be the total surprise for you, because you have considered all options and made the CHOICE. Therefore, read all what the leaders of atheism have to say. Get your consciousness, brother!

Trying to use a scare tactic for your particular flavor of one particular religion based on unsubstantiated beliefs is completely pointless given the countless other possibilities.

Don't You die between the possibilities! Start the moving, man! At first level study throughout the atheism (read the leaders' bestsellers!!!). Then if merciful God lefts you the time, you can move to more complex level of Philosophy.

Atheism is not primitive paganism. It is the lack of belief in any god, pagan or otherwise. I'm surprised a Christian is not aware of this fact.

1. one doesn't require reasons to "reject" claims. one rather requires reasons to accept claims. Well, if one cares about being rationally justified in ones beliefs, off course.
