Why Bud Light? Why not Sam Adams or Dog Fish Head 90 Minute IPA?

Because Bud Light is a generic drink mass produced in factories, other beers are brewed with special ingredients Dark Ale or Guiness or Heineken would be better.

Bud Light is water. Sam Adadms Boston Lager and Dogfish Head 90 Minute India Pale Are are beers.

Seraphim: Have you ever actually had beer? I mean, Guinness is all right, but hardly anything to write home about.

For something you can find anywhere it's good. Now if you can find Ommegang Three Philosopher's Ale....

Guiness is an acquired taste... first pint I hated it, second onwards I love it. Admitedly, it didn't take me too long to acquire it . It's my first choice these days when I want a sure bet for my money (i.e. most of the time).

But I have also found that the Guiness you drink in Ireland is much better than the Guiness you drink in Britain, which is much better than the Guiness you drink anywhere else.

It is of course well-known that it's good for you .

In a choice between it and Budweiser, sure, choose Guinness. Among stouts, it's not particularly noteworthy. Among Irish stouts, okay, I'll give you that. As an everyday beer available almost anywhere you go, it's quite good. I'd just order something else unless I had to choose between it and something terrible. Then again, I'm somewhat of a snob, I suppose. I have several bottles of Dark Lord in my closet. I've taken quite a bit of time and a lot of scientific experimentation to develop my taste in beer.

VERY good, VERY strong stuff!

That's what I miss about living in Georgia. The great beer selection in the grocery store!

In Georgia you could get your steak, potatoes, and the beer or wine to go with it all in one place. In New Jersey you have to make a separate trip to the liquor store.

I'd agree wholeheartedly with this. I also agree with Kreik that Guinness does taste better in Ireland than anywhere else...particularly when the drinks are free, the beer is flowing, the sausages are being passed around, and the Irish songs are being sung at a packed pub.

THAT is when Guinness is at it's best!

(Not that I know of such experiences! )

Well, I just spent a weekend in Northern Ireland a few years ago... not an expert... but the improvement in Guinness quality is noticable from the first sip... it wasn't free though .

Anyway, beer is a local thing... where you are, you'd better go for the local stuff, unless you happen to really hate some particular taste.
