Thanks! Though after all the bureaucracy I've waded through, I need to find the inspiration to do my doctorate. I'd far rather be doing other things now like painting icons...

Shubunkin, that is so impressive! I am going to have to wait another summer or two to get the pond built. Next summer we are going to build the back porch which will probably take a good part of the summer for me to build, so it probably won't be until summer 2010 that I get to build mine.

Shubunkin, how big is your pond? Do you mind me asking how wide it is and how deep it is? A few of the rocks in the pond look really big.

The pond I want to make will consist of a small pond at the far end that will spill over a small waterfall (or 2 or 3) into a stream that will feed a much longer pond at the end closest to the house. I think I will only make the pond closest to the house deep enough to have large koi in it. I am thinking it should be about 3 feet deep at its deepest.

I know, but I can dream. It's not environmentally good here either, we are in a crazy drought and artificial ponds are deemed a waste of water (it all evaporates).

Call the environmentalists crazy if you like but our country's major river is dying
