  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm reading "The Shack" at the request of my mom right now. I gotta say it has some scary theological conclusions in it. I'm sure my protests will be seen by most (that is, non-Orthodox) as "legalistic" and "close minded". So it goes with our culture, God is whoever you want Him to be.

Lord have mercy on us

Oh that book. My dad asked me to read it....oh goodness I dislike that book!

Unfortunately everyone in the circles I grew up in loves it. Ugh.

One friend of my Dad's says that the writer goes to extremes to break people out of legalistic mindsets. That might be true but NO!

Have you read Hymn of Entry by Archimandrite Vasileios? I LOVE that book! It's short, but full of meat to chew. When I read books like it, I realize how theologically far apart the Orthodox are from other churches.

It just reflects back to me how lost people are when it comes to God. They have no foundation, no right teaching in the True Faith. Therefore, these conceptions have to be made (invented) to deal with this lack of grounding in sound Theology. It very much reflects our relativistic culture, which is infiltrating much of protestant Christianity. The emphasis on the self guided search of scripture without proper context (the context of the Orthodox Church) further extends the problem. Delusion is so easy to fall into, may the Lord protect us from it.
