  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As the resident metalhead, I know all about Finnish metal (Amorphis, Nightwish, Sentenced, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Sinergy etc), but I have to say that I was disappointed mightily by the song. It is too cliche, even for Eurovision, and the chorus is not catchy at all, very indifferent. It's like a fourth rate pop-Manowar and that's really bad. Lordi had the KISS on steroids visual thing going for them AND a catchy song. I don't see Terasbetoni going very far. But I have to applaud the metalness :p

I'm not a Terasbetoni fan either but Lordi was, like you described it awesomely so, KISS on steroids... The song is still a required staple at all our squadron get togethers LOL... with the obligatory head banging.

They are going to get votes from our young audience that is for sure....We gave them about 12 points the previous year.....

Seems like the official website will do it again this year... hopefully they have enough bandwidth.

Good morning to orthodox metalheads, to those who are excited about Eurovison song contest, to those it leaves cold and to other non-music lovers friends.

Can you believe the guy performing for France sings in English ?

Congratulations, Emmanuel! And it's very nice to have you around TAW again. How was your time in Dallas? What parishes were you able to visit?

Mary

Hello Mary,

I had a great time in Texas. I spent 10 days in Dallas and about 10 days visiting the Panhandle (Palo Duro, Caprock canyons, Amarillo) with my friends.
My friends in Dallas live quite close to the Cathedral, so I went there twice, and loved it. People were very nice and I got introduced to bishop Dimitri who was very nice. He told me about when he visited Paris and St Sergius back in the 50's.

Wow, things have changed since I was last here. And Emmanuel was just here in Texas. I'm glad you had a good time visiting the lovely sites and the Cathedral.

We watched Cyrano De Bergerac avec Gerard Depardieu last night and I kept wondering how to say "Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me" in French.

And hello Mary. I wish people hadn't cut in at the Pre-Lenten Retreat so that I could have chatted more with you. I hope you are well.

*wondering what sort of picture is going to show up when I post. I hope it wont be the Phantom of the Opera singalong*

Hello Andrea Elizabeth,

Nice to hear from you. I visited your country last March (I didn't know it was your country) and as you could read, I liked it.

Merci Emmanuel.

I was thinking the other day that it sounds like the Romantic languages say mercy and grace instead of thank you. Maybe thank you is more Germanic.

Just saw the quote...

And, I actually agree with her! Definitely High n' Dry at least. Although I suspect her opinion is not based on some personal conviction but because the stuff sounds too heavy! Def Leppard, too heavy! Hahahaha, good one! Pyromania is a great album though! And I'll say it, I also love Hysteria! There!

There is a major attitudinal difference between Def Leppard and bands that I truely consider Heavy Metal like Metallica, Megadeath, Iron Maiden, etc. Def Leppard does play very hard, heavy rock on High n Dry and Pyromania, and to some extent on Hysteria (all three of which I love), but the nature of their songs is not nearly as dark and sinister as those of Metallica and Maiden and thus I hesitate to call them heavy metal.

I was once a metal head, but now the only band that I listen to which is really considered heavy metal is Metallica. But with Metallica, I really don't like anything they have produced after the black album. To me Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning are their premier works.

Wow, that sounds like a Manowar interview. "We play true metal. False metal is for whimps".

Loool.....
Well, the Manowar attitude is funny though..
I am an Orthodox Metalhead too,so we are many here..(hidden,but many)

Well, concerning Def Leppard...well,they are not Heavy Metal for sure,(for me is like a very heavy Bon Jovi or something) but their heavy rock work is awesome..great great band..
