There are people on every online site who won't forgive and who hold grudges for the smallest reasons -- nitpicking reasons.
In real discourse, you can look at a person while you are talking, and if their lips are tightly pursed, you know that they are not open to you. So you can move on and ignore them.
In online forums and chat rooms, we don't have that facial feedback and anyone can read our posts. A simple post can be misinterpreted because our words have multiple meanings and therefore our sentences have double or even triple meanings.
I too am debating whether I shall remain on any more online forums anywhere. There is just too much pettiness and judging going on.
Person to person discourse is subject to a lot of variables too. I definitely will not like to have a chatroom where you can see people in a live chatroom. I think that can be far worse especially if someone has a tick or disability where the person can be ridiculed.
And then there would be the possiblity of stalking because they would know what you look like and your image would be seen worldwide.

Hehe...my dad's attempting to cook tonight. He's bugging me every 5 minutes with another question. I've got half a mind to go to the kitchen and cook the darn steaks myself.

Don and Charitina, I agree that there are plenty of good people here at CF. But is it worth the time spiritually to be here when small pettiness can destroy awareness of the presence of God? I guess that is the risk we take.

Isn't it a risk that we take anytime we seek fellowship with others? People are people, whether they're online or "out there." As much as I think we all want to find a safe place, or as Annabel Lee emphasizes, a sanctuary, there will always be someone or something attempting to distract us. I see a great deal of pettiness from clients at work, as well as some coworkers, and as you've often recommended, the Jesus Prayer is running through my head, which keeps me focused on what's important. It is that deep breath I've learned to take to keep myself from being sucked in.Aria said:

I don't know if it's because I feel like a guest in TAW (not a bad thing btw) but I find myself not wanting to disagree or get into debates.
I'm actually listening, taking advice and investigating sources.
Maybe because Orthodox is new to me, (and reading books does not really count) Not new exactly, because it's seems it's something I always knew but needed to be pointed in the right direction.
