  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I find it very interesting and inspiring to read about other peoples experiences so I'm asking what spiritual / supernatural stuff you people practise?

Definition of "practise" in this case includes being open for such things and expecting them to happen to you. I think expecting something to happen counts as a practise because it's "passive practising" of ones faith.

To kickstart the things, I made a list of some examples that those practises could be. Share as much or little details as you want in answers. Feel free to add additional stuff or just say anything that comes to mind about the topic.

Do you:

- Have two-way conversations with God? Meaning you get some answers, like hear voice or get strong feelings as answers etc.

- Seek and receive signs of guidance from God about life decision, or about your spiritual path?

- Receive wisdom and understanding by spiritual means? (I don't mean studying, more like experiences of being enlightened about something)

- Communicate with other benelovent spirits than God, like angels for example?

- Experience holiness or personality transformations as result of spiritual stuff?

- Have divine calling or have developed strong sense that God wants you to do something with your life?

- Seek being healed by God? (physically or emotionally)

- Fight spiritually against demon possessions or against harrasment by bad spirits?

- Have special spiritual connection with someone or something? (Jesus spoke to wind and a tree, as if they were humans, for example)

- Seek to influence other peoples lives by praying etc?

- Seek to know the future, through prophecies, visions, signs etc?

- Get drunk in the spirit?

Want to share something more general thoughts about the topic? How open you want to be for such phenomenons/experiences? How important experiential spirituality is for you?

- Seek and receive signs of guidance from God about life decision, or about your spiritual path?
Yes. God brought a friend into my life about a year ago. It changed how I view my own culture and others.
It wasn't easy though, but I had a dream which explained the occurrences purpose, and I'll say it could only have came from God. More or less, it was there to drive me to deal with my problems, and also explained the friendship was only temporary for a reason. Another more mundane one was I got a lot of work done yesterday even when I was doing a new process, and mass produced something very temperamental. I concluded God was probably involved to some extent.

- Receive wisdom and understanding by spiritual means? (I don't mean studying, more like experiences of being enlightened about something)
Sometimes, I find days can have a lot of feeling, and meaning. I look at my life in retrospect, and just feel at peace while contemplating things. I don't know what it is exactly, although I pray for wisdom, and understanding so that might be it.

- Have divine calling or have developed strong sense that God wants you to do something with your life?
From several past events and experiences I've found I'd strongly prefer a different culture for my better half.
Also, I feel it could be for missionary, or otherwise somehow dealing or helping others. I just keep seeing everything compiled up in a unique way, and I suspect there is some sort of calling in all of this.

- Seek to influence other peoples lives by praying etc?
Yes, I pray for others, and within the bible it says that's what we should do.

nobody can tell you what your relationship with Jesus SHOULD be because you need to enter into it yourself.
For me, it is intensely spiritual, and loving relationship, or more like a friendship as I relate to him as a sister to a big brother, and God as my Father.

I used to be into other 'spiritual' things, but they are NOTHING compared to what God did in my life. Jesus is Lord, and there is no other name by which we are saved. We cannot earn it, it is all by his grace. And that is supernatural.

I would advise if you want to seek out other spiritual things post on a different forum, as, this is a christian forum and, unbelievers will have a hard time understanding stuff I will talk about, and also, you need to go to the Bible and pray and ask Him what it means. If you cannot or aren't willing to do this...you won't understand what God is saying to you.

yea I was hooked on Sid Roth show for a while too...
Definitely supernatural.

But with christians, all glory goes to God - Lord Jesus Christ.
we cannot claim anything but what Jesus did for us and is still doing today...

as I said...it's all about Jesus.

I have many experiences with the supernatural. From conversing with God, to healings, not just myself but God working through me and them being healed. I've even encountered both angles and demons. One of my greatest experiences with an angle, happened almost 10 years ago. The short version of it, helped an elderly gentleman change a tire around 10:30 at night in February of that year and handed me an envolpe, though I had been praying for finances for to get back to school after my grandmothers funeral. I tried to reject his gift but he said that he was supposed to give me this so I put it in the inside coat pocket as He drives off. About 30 seconds later a police officer stops and ask if I was alright. I told him yea I was just helping that gentlemen change his tire. The officer looked at me confusingly and had said that he had been there for about 30 minutes and I was the only car that had been there. I pulled the envolpe out and said he was there and he gave me this envolpe, I still hadn't looked inside it. After the discussion and him learning that I was sober and of sound mind he drives away. I opened the envolpe and It had way more than enough money to get back to school.

I think this is a good question thread. Without answers to the op, Christians will look for answers somewhere else for their questions--perhaps in their previous religious beliefs combined with Christianity.

Ive mentioned a couple of times that my brother and I were ill as young children. But, for those who didn't see those posts...

My parents both carried a very rare recessive gene. When they married and had children, this gene became dominant in my sister, brother, and I. This gene impaired the development of part of our liver which breaks down and rids the body of lactic acid (aka Lactose, milk sugar). Because of this, our livers were unable to process lactic acid and it stored it in our livers in crystalline form. There are several variants of this, but ours was the most lethal. In fact, no child with our variant had lived to the age of two and there hadn't been a case of it in our state in 50 years before the birth of my sister in 1964.

As the liver began storing the lactic acid, it began to damage the liver. Eventually, it caused liver failure, which also caused other organs to fail, such as the kidneys. In my sisters case, this kidney failure resulting in a water "tumor" forming around her heart and lungs. When this water tumor ruptured, it flooded her chest and she died at the age of 6 weeks. Friends and family from across the US began prayer circles for us. We were added to prayer lists in churches from Florida to Illinois, from NC to California. We were the first children to survive this illness and our case was written up in medical journals. The fact that we survived was a miracle. This became apparent many years later when while visiting a doctor, I mentioned my childhood illness. My doctor had worked for a researcher investigating this illness. Even after our "healing", children continued to die. At my doctor's request, I released all of my childhood medical records. They had never heard of us nor that any child had survived this variant.

Move ahead another few years. My brother and I are working for a small municipality. Ok, we were working as garbage men. Because of this, the town we were working for offered free immunizations for certain illnesses, including Hepatitis. So, my brother went first. He received the shot. Seven to ten days later he had to have a blood test. Not only could they not find antibodies that should have been present, they could find no trace of the vaccine. Later on he repeated the test. Same result. The doctor told him that he must be naturally immune to Hepatitis because of the illness we survived as children.

We should be dead, but by the Grace of God we are still here. Miracles do happen.

1) "Two way conversations" - Not really, obviously prayer is a two way street, but I wouldn't ever say I've had a two way conversation with God that was like a typcial human conversation.

2) Yes

3) Yes

4) No, I don't really seek out to communicate with angels.

5) No

6) To a degree yes, but I don't think God is a micromanager

7) Yes, but at the same time I'm going to seek out physical care as well.

8) Absolutely not. I think some Christians focus too much on the demonic and give it more power than it should have.

9) I don't think so.

10) Yes, to a degree, but ultimately other people have free will.

11) No. I focus on what I can do now to follow Christ and don't have the time or care to worry about prophecy.

12) No, and I think that's dangerous to your relationship with God. I used to until I realized that I was seeking the high, called it "getting high" instead of "drunk", instead of worshipping God.

Since you mentioned this, I'd like to say that I personally think that in search of supernatural it's important see natural and supernatural as part of the same reality. Not as some alternative realities, where one has to choose one over the other (like for good example, going to a doctor or praying for healing). I don't personally seek to reject my earthly life in order to find supernatural, rather I just seek to explore new dimension in my life.

My personal goal with supernatural has been for years to embrace it in harmony with everything natural. I know I haven't succeeded in this as well as I would have wanted to, but I like to think that my goal is pretty good.

Any thoughts and similar experiences?

I often experience a spiritual encounter that I've been trying to understand for some years now. It happens at random times when I go to sleep.

It's after I turn off the lights in my room and fall asleep that a bright light fills my room. I do not dare to open my eyes but my eyes can feel the light in my room. The light is so intense that it causes a kind of slight vibration as it passes through my body and it's not discomforting. This lasts for about 5 minutes.

Last night, I've found some strength to open my eyes and when I opened my eyes, it wasn't my physical eyes because I could see the light but not the things in my room. Then I started praying and I was hearing someone preaching.

I think this is a good thread and that we should talk about this stuff more.

Then I started praying and I was hearing someone preaching. It lasted for about 5 minutes.

What did they say?

- Have two-way conversations with God? Meaning you get some answers, like hear voice or get strong feelings as answers etc.
Yes, this has happened. It doesn't happen often but every once in a while I might hear a significant word and write it down.

I've had one experience in college where I heard three voices. Most likely from the Holy Spirit, from Satan and myself at once. I was doing a quiet time in the morning. I called my mentor immediately to find out what happened. She said what was told me is not in the Bible and that I should go through the process of sorority Rush. Which is what the words were about. I did not make it through the process because my GPA was .01 under the minimum requirement. I was so depressed. The following semester my GPA was 3.01. Well within the means of doing sorority rush but the door was closed. It was confirmation that the Lord had His best in mind for me.

Seek and receive signs of guidance from God about life decision, or about your spiritual path?
I don't seek signs but there have been things that have been given and I pay attention and write them in my prayer journal. Sometimes it's a time of fasting. Sometimes it's a certain amount of days to abstain from something to keep my focus on the Lord or a certain number of days doing some kind of scripture study. You can't go wrong with scripture. It will never return void.

Receive wisdom and understanding by spiritual means? (I don't mean studying, more like experiences of being enlightened about something)
I believe I have the gift of wisdom and discernment. It has definitely developed with age. even though I have the gift of wisdom and discernment it doesn't mean I always practice what I've been given as knowledge. Sometimes I choose to make wrong choices anyway. I'm very good at reading people and seeing what others don't see.

Communicate with other benelovent spirits than God, like angels for example?
Nope, never done that. And don't care to.

Experience holiness or personality transformations as result of spiritual stuff?
Yes, the Holy Spirit has changed me overtime. An example of this is how I would react to children crying. I couldn't stand a lot of loud noises. Over time I noticed that this changed, as I was around a friend and could see her reaction to a baby crying as we are running in the distance. I also had a date that shared with me at one time in his life he yelled out to " be quiet" in the middle of a plane. No one was doing anything about a baby crying, or aware. Both of these people are believers but the transformation has not happened yet. I totally got it but was amazed that the Lord has worked in me that things that really bothered me don't so much anymore.

The same with fears. There have been fears that were transformed and evident to those who had known me. And I didn't realize the transformation till it was pointed out to me how they were surprised that I was not afraid.

Fight spiritually against demon possessions or against harrasment by bad spirits?
Nope. I've been very fortunate. Or very unaware but praying against it. I have had bondages in the past that had to be broken through fasting and prayer and long times in Scripture and singing praise songs.

Seek to influence other peoples lives by praying etc?
intercession is a gift. But I try not to seek to influence others. I also am more careful about how I pray and how I am involved with those I pray for because it can become too much of a burden if my heart is not in the right place.

Seek to know the future, through prophecies, visions, signs etc
Sure, it comes naturally. It's not uncommon for me to have for knowledge without realizing that I have foreknowledge and speaking it out. I could be having a conversation not realizing I'm actually forecasting what is ahead. I don't usually have visions but I have from time to time. But I do have dreams and they can be very loud and very vivid and have a message. And sometimes those messages are of warning and I need to take heed.
