The manifestations of the Holy Spirit lead to a life of power in God. Without which we are powerless.
I'm going to disagree, just a bit here. Any believer, by virtue of having the spirit of Christ in him at the regeneration/rebirth of his spirit, has all the power necessary to manifest the fruit of that holy spirit just like Jesus, before He received His own baptism of Holy Spirit at age 30 (Hello ), when He received the power to perform supernaturally powerful miracles. He also had the power to walk in sinlessness. I believe all born again believers do have that very same power in those two realms, and I believe we see that in their lives.

I also think that believers prior to the baptism of holy spirit power from Jesus the baptizer are represented spiritually and symbolically in the church of Philadelphia.

REV 3:7 "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: 'The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one shall shut, who shuts and no one opens. 8 "'I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut; I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

I believe I've seen many fundamental ministries where those brethren have done lots of good Christians works cultivated the FRUIT of Godly character (like Jesus did before He received the authority for the Holy Spirit's power) and never denied the the name of Jesus. Billy Graham especially comes to mind as an example IMO.

I can only imagine how much more Billy could have done if he really did have just the "little power" but also the 'big power' like Paul had manifested in his ministry and very well may have been speaking of here.

Those are my thoughts anyway. Still with me Saint Steven? Now you know why I hang out so much in the UNORTHODOX forum....cause I am.

Translated correctly, but interpreted/penned wrong like good FUNDAMENTALIST "scribes making the word of God a lie." Check out a Greek Interlinear and see that little Greek word "OF" in both of those verses being conveniently left out, because that POV makes no sense to them or you.

"I will pour out OF my Spirit...."
I do hope I don't have to tell yo WHAT He poured out now do I? It would have been "the promise of POWER".

Acts 2:4 "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit"
We've been down this road, and you never remember the trip. So, lets go around this mountain one more time. Hopefully those who are Charismatics and don't know this will be enlightened even if you continue to kick the goads.

Question Swordman....Tell me which "Doctor" in the sentence following is a noun and which one is a verb. And if you're really a sharp sword tell me 'why' that is grammatically so?

"That is a nasty cut, but the doctor is in the office so lets let him doctor it up."

OK Swordman tell me the answer...and I'll teach you the truth concerning Acts 2:4 and a whole lot of other verses.

If you had studied this a little more thoroughly you would have seen your mistake. Joel's prophecy itself must serve as the authoritative interpretation of Peter's quotation of it. And there is no "of" in Joel 2:28,29. It says plainly "I will pour out My Spirit". All bible translations agree that.

Yes, still with you. Thanks.

I will agree that any believer has the indwelling Spirit for a measure of power available to them. But those operating in manifestations of the HS see so much more.

Based on the verse below, it seems like we are not there yet.

John 14:12
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And frankly, the proof is in the pudding, as they say. In which churches do we see healing and deliverance taking place? If you haven't yet done it, you should read the healing testimonies page on the church website for Bethel, Redding. (link)
I have personally experienced divine appointments and healing.
Again, I would lay a measure of this problem at the feet of the Cessationists that have indoctrinated whole generations against HS manifestations. The church is still in a rebuilding mode in this area. We've been robbed, and we are working to get back on track.
Many receive the manifestation of tongues immediately, but some struggle with it. We help those who struggle to overcome their difficulty. Those who have a mental block of some sort are helped over the hump. Smooth sailing from there.
Pentecostal children typically do not struggle at all to manifest tongues. They didn't grow up in a church that taught that tongues were of the devil. And we see preschoolers praying for the sick, demonstrating incredible faith. This next generation is something else.
2 Timothy 3:5
having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
The promise = the Holy Spirit every believer has. Not all spoke in tongues in Acts so it doesn't mean the gifts were for all.
In which case it is quite possible for people to be commissioned by Christ today... and impart the gift(s) in the same way as these did.
Not possible. Daniel and Zechariah set time limits when prophecy and related gifts would cease. And All prophecy after that time would be false. This coincides with Paul also saying they would cease.
Understanding is the basis for edification. And today's tongues speakers do not understand what they are saying = false experience.
How can you claim that the gifts were not for all? (1 Cor.12:7) The promise is defined in verse 33.
Acts 2:33
Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.
1 Corinthians 14:4
Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.
This does not prove all had the gifts. Paul even asked "do all speak in tongues". Do all prophesy?
Yes, and understanding what is said is what edifies. Today's "tongue speakers" know not what they say. = false experience.
Did they need to discover the gifts in Acts? Or did God just send them? Discovery = God withdrew them and any discovering them is phony.
They didn't have the NT when God sent the Charismatic gifts. They expired when he stopped sending them.
The whole point of the first half of 1 Corinthians chapter fourteen is that those speaking in tongues do not understand. Therefore, prophecy is preferred.
Paul wasn't referring to a personal prayer language. Look at what your selective editing left out. Tongues/interpretation = congregational prophetic utterance. Not all do.
1 Corinthians 12:30
Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
It still remains those praying in tongues knew what they were saying or they would not have been edified.
No, it pertains to interpreting (explaining) what those speaking in tongues were saying. They were edified but the rest were not unless they interpreted what was said.
Paul writes about Timothy receiving his gift through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on him. And Paul was a part of that. They relied on prophecy to DISCOVER Timothy's gift.
1 Timothy 4:14
Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
2 Timothy 1:6
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
A tongues-speaker can be edified, the whole congregation would not.
