Hi,
Does anyone on here like the American art-rock duo Sparks? They have to be one of the funniest and under-rated bands in the history of rock music. They started out playing Uni gigs and shopping malls in LA in the early 70's and had Todd Rundgren produce their first album, which had classics like 'No More Mr. Nice Guy', and 'Simple Ballet'.
The band is probably best remebered for the seminal hit 'This Town Aint Big Enough For Both Of Us' in which they mixed heavy glam rock riffs with Bach etudes and falsetto vocals, which they've re-recorded often as a classical ortario, a metal anthem, a C&W ballad and a techno stomper and it still sounds pretty good.
I loved Ron Mael, the keyboard player. He used to scare kids with his Mr. Bumble scowl, the Charlie Chaplin moustachje and his constant eye rolling whilst sitting in a rigor mortis position behind his keyboard (though he's loosened up a lot in the recent years).
You can read more about this band at www.allsparks.com - their recent video 'The Rhythm Thief' is easily available on the Net, certainly up there with the likes of Talking Heads and U2 in its quality.
