  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Well the rod wasn't just a "time out" as they do with all the out' of control kids in the school system today..

Oooh. I remember a paddling I got in first grade. I deserved it actually, and the ACLU, I guess, wasn't around or at full strength yet.

Perhaps if the parents did their job parenting, teachers wouldn't have to be forced to discipline their kids for them?

Teachers discipline kids?

Please tell me what planet you live on, I would move there with my grandkids.

Maybe if government would get out of the parenting lives of families, schools got back to teaching the three R's and parents would get over their fear of the legal system and do something about taking their parental rights back, this would not be an issue.

So, your pro spanking for parents?

Did I say I was?

Never physically; they just often are better than the parents.

1. Child abuse is real and must be dealt with - in force. Take it from someone who knows this problem well.
2. There are several proven methods of dealing with children that do not include being physical. It isn't the children's fault for their parents' inability to try them or to give them a true chance.
3. Without the arts and electives, our children would be far worse in terms of their education than they are not.

As one fictional character said (paraphrasing): "cut the arts and they'll have nothing to write about"

I don't think anyone here is for abuse, and certainly you can abuse a child without touching them, so I'm not sure I follow your point. Are you saying spanking is always abuse? Why? Do you prefer modern methods like speed (i.e. Riddlin).

In other words, spare literal law, embrace Christ's love.

I take it you don't see the rod as literal. You may find it interesting, I don't either. The questions is, what do you think the rod is symbolic of? Hugs? Time outs?

Come on. Spare the rod, spoil the child is a proverb (duh), a saying, a bit of wisdom. It is not meant to be taken literally.

It's very true that the proverbs often deal in general principals and hyperbole. But this doesn't mean they are meaningless either, nor that they can be interpreted any way we like. So, what does the author's warning against sparing the rod mean? What principal does the rod convey?
