How are you guys doing financially in Korea? I worry about all my friends there.

When I left Korea in 2006, it could only buy about 90 yen for 1000 won. Now I can get 1450 won for 100 yen. It must feel like 1997 all over again in Korea...

I am the only regular visitor here, trying to hold a teaching job without the certification and a student who comes whenever he gets a break from his busy life.

I am a native Korean living in the NYC, NY.

I hear all kinds of bad news from there.

Even here in the USA, the financial crisis is looming all over, scaring many people.

People blame politicians, bad managements or regulations, and many things, but I blame the greed and consumer on which capitalistic economy are based.

Greed droves up on the wall at the dead end.

Doing fine thanks ol' bean. The recent rise in the USD is a temporary blip I think. I am paid in USD and it has been good for the past few months, but for the years before that it was not.

Back before that, I was paid in EUR. I wish I still was.

I really want to *bump* this thread. I'm thinking of going to Korea next year, and would love to meet some more people on CF who are currently or will be in Korea in the future. I've got to get back to practicing my Korean as well.

As well as its bustling Christian minority, the great majority of South Koreans are secular atheists.

The fact of the matter is that East Asia has always traditionally regarded culture and religion as the same thing. The Koreans generally see Christianity as foreign, and most prefer to remain irreligious.

I am planning a trip to South Korea with a friend. If anyone has any must see/eat places please share! Also, if anyone knows a good program for learning Korean, I'd love to know. I'm taking a class, but I wonder if there's a quicker process.

You should visit Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul.
It is one of the largest churches in the world.

There's been some recent controversies surrounding the found of the church but I would still go, maybe even visit the prayer mountain.

its quite sad what happened .. a man should not be tricked and shamed that way by his own son .. The love of money is an evil thing .

See if there's a worship night date around the time you'll be there.

I'd be wary of Scott Brenner. I'm not sure of his stance, but I do know his mother in law is pastor of a church that is borderline occultic.

I think I remember a blog post where he renounced the teachings circulating through her church but I honestly can't remember. It's been 4 years and a lot can change since then.

I won't say avoid him but keep your eyes open for red flags.
