Coming out of hiding for a bit (no, I'm not "back" on TAW ):

Spsucj does have a point we need to keep in mind: taking care with how others perceive us. For example, I've seen posts from Orthodox believers (especially in general forums) which I'm sure would give others a red flag. We must be careful not to heap scorn on people of other denominations, say that the Reformation was caused by Satan, be legalistic about pews/fasting/beards/etc. If a Protestant has just come out of an abusive group, or has read books such as this: http://www.rbc.org/uploadedFiles/Bi...w_to_Identify_a_Dangerous_Religious_Group.pdf
...such remarks will cause that person to say, "Orthodoxy is a spiritually abusive cult and I must stay out of it!" The Orthodoxy I'm experiencing in a real-life parish is nothing like that. But how will a person want to check it out if all they see is a lack of love and respect for other denominations? (Yes, I need to remember this, myself.)

Well, to be honest, I thought the same things when I first saw pictures of Orthodox "worship" and heard some of the things you do.

Ya'll could really do yourself a service and explain things better to the rest of the Christian body (whether you recognize your brothers/sisters or not). Seeing guys running around with golden staffs and stuff doesn't really float a lot of people's boats (considering a lot of Christians are Protestant). Ignorance is bliss, eh?

One of the biggest things my father attacks me about is how EO seems like the Judaism. I would defend you, but I only know so much (I'm getting smarter everyday, though ).

edit: perhaps that came out wrong, I only meant that a lot of sects of Christianity would escape the suffering of rumors if they explained themselves to the "rest of the body". One step towards union could be that everybody start to explain what they believe, just to set the record straight; get rid of nasty rumors like the ones in the link and the things I used to think of ya'll.

It goes good~I'm hanging mostly in the conservative christian forum here at cf, don't get into the baptist much anymore either.

I'd say Amen to that (just to let all my Orthodox friends know I still got my Protestant roots in me ) and because it's true. The forum seems unaffected by all the "junk" going on around...
