• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I Quit... It wasn't hard. sure i had some withdrawls but, They only lasted three days! I can honestly say that I know that it worries you. I also cared about what people thought; what was going on in my body, and the constant mantinance that cigarette addiction requires. I also know that it is something that know one has ever quit by gradual withdrawl or niccoteen replacement. You know the pain you go through when you are having withdrawls all to well. You start as soon as you put the cigsrette down! But, you still put yourself through it everytime you say "i'm going to cut back" or "another peice of gum"! Doesen't work! Because, the actual day you start your quit is when you decid to stop putting nicoteen into your body. Plain and simple; would you rather suffer for three days or suffer from cancer the rest of your shortened life. The first step of your quit is actually to smoke normally. because you can actually prolong your withdrawls if you put yourself through frequent withdrawl. Second step is to go to a colod turkey quit site. I will try and answer any questions I can if you ask!

I've been a smoker since I was 13 and have tried numerous times to quit.

I've considered hypnotism but am skeptical cause my parents did it and it didn't work.
I've tried the gum and patches and ended up smoking after a few days.

Is there anything that truly works ??
I had far less trouble quitting drinking than this. Sheesh.

I have the same problem. I can quit for a day with nicorette or the patch, but after a day the withdrawals get so bad i feel like screaming my lungs out into a pillow or putting a whole through my wall.

I really don't want to put my body through this anymore, but I can't find anything that seems to get me motivated enough to quit and actually deal with the withdrawals.
