  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry, I don't understand why not. Could you expand on the above? Thanks.

There are many evolutionary paths for different life forms on earth. These paths or common ancestry each have evidence for them. I am specifically asking about the Chimp/human ancestry.

Well, we share over 90% DNA with chimps, which would be more than enough in any court in the US to convict us of being cousins.

But I'm always intrigued by human chromosome #2, so I'll just throw that out there for you.

Great! This can be interesting. I am going to watch Monday night football so I don't have time to really respond like I want to so I will get to this tomorrow morning or later tonight. Thanks HitchSlap.

If the Theory of Evolution is true, then where else would man have come from? Are you saying he was created by magic?

E.D., Ninth Commandment warning. You know that you are the one who believes in magic.

Evolution is based upon observable, explainable, natural processes.

Special creation is perfectly natural as well. Who do you think programed all the genetics to allow variation in the first place?

Evolution producing variation is perfectly natural. Apes evolving into humans is not. Or any other magical processes you think may have happened in the past.

You don't consider your computer to be there by magical processes do you? It's the same thing with creation. I don't believe it's magical.

Trace the common ancestor tree or bush backwards far enough and you will arrive at it as well as hitting a few magical spots along the way.

So now you are claiming that chemistry is supernatural and various gods are natural? How many gods do you have in your backyard?

You must have a strange definition of supernatural

Something operating beyond the laws of nature. Like an ape animal giving rise to a human being. Or dinosaurs morphing into birds or land animals into whales.

To Subduction Zone, I understand and accept that change happens in a species line, giving variation to that species. I have no problem with the basic concept of evolution.

Oh, look. A creationist with no clue how evolution works. How utterly typical.

So skulls that give us nothing on the chimp side of the equation do it for you? Genetic similarities we can discuss more fully after we understand what makes skulls so convincing to you.

hominids2_small.jpg

Don't you think A and B look awfully similar?

A is a normal chimpanzee and B is Australopithecus africanus, the best known one being named Lucy.

This isn't stand alone information that should make someone leap to their feat and yell, "I see it! Evolution is real!", but you asked what was convincing.

The very similar genetic code with the near identically placed ERVs would be more of your "Proved to a court of law." type evidence, but for the "Oh, I see it.", I like the skulls.

Ok, if you understood evolution you would realize that chimps are not direct ancestors of humans. These skulls could not be chimp. They are apes after the linage broke off to form the branch that led to the Homo Sapien. If you were in a court of law right now, you would lose the case. So the most convincing evidence for you is not even what you think it is.

Nope, you've been led to believe that is true, but it's not.

Who told you this? I would question anything they've told you, because apparently they are giving you incorrect information.
