• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I haven't been cutting very long and less than a handful of times. I don't think I'm addicted to it, it just happens in a stressful situation. I'm just not sure what to do now...Help please....
Cutting is not something you want to get into if you can at all help it - as I'm sure the others in this forum will also tell you.
Depending on who you are, things like journaling, drawing, singing/playing an instrument, going out for a jog or doing some other sort of exercise can help to release the stress.
I also suggest going and talking to your doctor about it - you need to stop it before it really starts.

Try finding other things to do when you get into a situation where you feel like cutting, do something you enjoy or that helps you to relax...I know that lots of the guys on here have distraction methods that they could tell you if you needed some ideas...If you ever wanna talk I'm always happy to listen and try to help...

That's exactly how I started...I just wanted to know why people did it and I hated it, but a few weeks later when I got depressed I did it...and I got deep in! Everytime you get a craving to cut, ask God to get you through just that one, it will get easier and easier! Email me on my Yahoo if you want any further advice! Ciao bella!

Stop before you get into it deeply. I've been a cutter for going on 2 years now and it's nothing that you want to get addicted to. Get professional help. Counseling about why you want to do this to yourself - psych perhaps for medical advice. Are you dealing with depression or anxiety? Sounds a bit like anxiety with the "stressful situations" bit. Try to find another way of venting your frustration/stress. Like Steffi said - journalling is a really good way of getting out emotions - try your hand at poetry, it doesn't have to be good and no one else has to see it - it's just a wonderful way of expressing those emotions that just don't come out very well in journal writing. Exhaust yourself exercising - jogging/running/weightlifting are all good cardio exercises, swimming is good aerobic. And above all... pray about this. Ask God to give you His strength to conquer cutting before it really begins, and His peace in those awful stressful situations.

If you ever need anyone to talk with, I'm here, via PM, email, or IM. God bless and stay strong.
