solid state(records) used to be good...

i remember when i was in middle school finding about the bands zao, embodyment, strongarm, selfmindead, living sacrifice, society's finest...among others. it was such raw and awesome lable with great bands. so fun to listen to. it was gauranteed to be awesome with the "solidstate" logo on the back.

but now..

zao left the lable and isn't as good, strongarm is now furtherseemsforever, selfmindead broke up, living sacrifice broke up, society's finest broke up, embodyment sounds like incubus now.... and the new bands on solid state are just weak. underoath is weak now(was a lengthy songed metalcore/black metal band now emo) norma jean's(ex luti kriss) new cd is boring. most everything on the lable is just plain boring and un inventive. the newest band on solid state "becoming the archetype" are pretty decent, not the best, but they are metal. at least we still have extol. but hopfully the'll get out of this thrash stage and back into the extreme black metal stage.

i miss good hardcore and metal

Except Society's Finest isnt broke up, they are releasing a new cd, just not under Solid State. I have the promo of Extol. Its not death metal, but i think its better than synergy (not like thats hard to do) Anywayz. I agree with you. Same goes for tooth and nail (yes i know they are the same company)

I think the main reason SOlid State is sucking so much now is because of EMI. The artists now have quotas to meet on how many CDs they sell and "stuff" and if they don't sell enough CDs they get the boot.

It didn't used to be like that. Tooth and Nail/Solid STate is terrible now with few exceptions. For my hardcore, I like me some Facedown I do really like The Chariot though. That's some raw stuff. mmmmm.

Face it, if you want the exceptionally good or true-too-form kind of stuff you have to go for the lil known. Solid State in the last few years has made leaps & bounds in getting known and that means their gonna have a rep they have to keep up, and if anybody tries to keep up a rep they always end up playing to what's popular more than to what's true, that's just the way it goes.

Like most of Solid State's bands, and I like that Solid State works hard to promote their bands and give em that step up.

I've only heard good things about Facedown record's bands that they currently have, and they have Symphony in Peril who I like a lot ...they're really great guys w/ good music. However I haven't actually got to hear/listen too alot of the bands they have becuz Facedown is lesser known to the general public. It's kinda of a cruel paradigm.

I've always figd the best way to find of particular genre or scene is go to the shows ...especially local shows, that's where ya find the treasures. God bless the music festival becuz they make it easy to sample alot bands, and if ya like em get their name & stuff right there instead searching all over to see if anyone else knows em or where to get their stuff at.

Endtime Productions also has some excelent cd's
Momentum Scandinavia as well

I think those are the three best christian labels for metal at the moment.

i noticed this on the samplers... this is solid state vol 2 is awesome! i just got vol 5... it's pretty disappointing. hardcore and emo... hardly any metal...
