  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I thought all you soldiers would enjoy this.

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Remember, it is the Soldier, not the reporter Who has given us the
freedom of the press. It is the Soldier, not the poet, Who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the Soldier Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, and Whose coffin is draped by the flag, who
allows the protester to burn the flag.

Please pray for our men and women currently serving our country and pray for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Not to be a grouch... but what army did he serve in?

He says it in this context "Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep, I never passed a cry for help," Don't think he means he didn't need help in combat.

We have seen this in many Korean stores on different products also. The problem with this is, soldier is listing excuses to God upon questioning, he doesn't say a thing about Jesus.

Its actually in different stanza to that one.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

A short history of US military actions in the past 50 years would show that there have been many times when "crys for help" have been passed (rightly or wrongly).

I think I agree with you though bushmaster, that stuff like this, whilst heavy on compliments and sappy sentiment, can actually be quite misleading and unhelpful. Particularly when it comes to living out a life following Christ.

In my honest opinion, this text seems like it is the real deal, it is quite misleading like you said, makes the soldier think that HE WILL GET AWAY with his heroic actions when standing before our Lord. Not without Jesus, no. I have seen many soldiers buy this to hang on their walls, I would never do such thing. Wishy washy make feel good stuff, excuse me.
