  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You may be proud of the gay person for hauling the 80 pounds of gear, but I am worried about the shower room where the AIDS get spread.

Clirus, HIV/AIDS spreads through all kinds of sexual and fluid-based contact that is characteristic of both homosexual and heterosexual unions. You are attempting to confine AIDS as a 'gay problem' because its convenient to your ideology of contempt.

I'm actually surprised that you are concerned about gay people spreading AIDS to each other. I thought you felt it was just punishment for their sin.

Um, I don't think they let anyone HIV positive into the military. It tends to be a bloody job, and there are numerous way to catch AIDS without any type of sex.

The mortal shame of homosexuality is that the AIDS epidemic was totally preventable. The book and movie, "The Band Played On" tells of how the Center for Disease Control had clearly identified the pathway of AIDS into America in 1983 and had asked the San Francisco government to close the homosexual bath houses that were spreading AIDS. The San Francisco government refused.

As the Bible says, AIDS would be just punishment for sin, except that homosexuals with AIDS are treated as needy people that deserve health care/welfare programs as part of a Socialism system.

HIV/AIDS is preventable by using condoms. That applies for both homosexual and heterosexual partnerships. As I said earlier, you are trying to portray AIDS as a 'gay disease' when it's not.

As the Bible says, AIDS would be just punishment for sin, except that homosexuals with AIDS are treated as needy people that deserve health care/welfare programs as part of a Socialism system.

That is your opinion and virtually no-one agrees with that opinion. Enjoy your loneliness.

Not only does "clirus" fail to show compassion for "homosexuals with AIDS" she compounds her lack of charity by even begrudging them whatever temporary comfort public "health care/welfare programs" can bring.

There is no agnostic or atheist in this forum that displays the vindictiveness and callous disregard for human life than "clirus" exhibits for those who don't fit into her narrow "religious agenda."

1 Corinthians 13:1-13

1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Are you showing "compassion" or "acceptance"?

Is it "charity" to encourage sin?

I worry that in providing "temporary comfort public "health care/welfare programs"" we are creating more problems than they solve.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Give a woman a fish and she will be back soon with another illegitimate child.

I don't see poverty decreasing. I believe a "soft on sin" approach encourages immoral behavior.

I don't like the idea of people being executed, but it is best to remove the rotten apple from the barrel so that the whole barrel will not rot.

I would hope that by both the Church and State rebuking sin/evil, there would be few executions, but I will admit that some people will never follow good advice, even from God.

That's a rather illegitimate assumption.

Gosh. Since mercy is 'soft on sin' apparently, I wonder why Christ ever showed mercy if it only encourages immoral behaviour??

"Clirus" provides the predictable response but what is interesting is that she deliberately ignores all mention of 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 which effectively undermines her own arguement.

Does this mean "clirus" has added 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 (1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal ...) to the growing list of passages that she considers "too soft on sin?"

The current list includes
- The Greatest Commandment (Christians are only commanded to love our Christian "neighbors" not sinners)
- The Parable of the Good Samaritan (a Samaritan helping an injured Jew was strictly a case of mistaken identity because we are only required to extend charity to those of the same faith / homosexuals with AIDS should be deprived of all public healthcare and social assistance that might lessen their suffering)
- The Believers share their Possessions (capitalism, not socialism, is consistent with with Christian teachings / "clirus" has an overriding concern that some underserving soul might actiually get something for nothing)
- The Beatitudes (we should attack our enemies before they attack us)
- The Rich Young Ruler (poverty can be attributed to sin / helping the poor, especially if they are not Christians, is nothing more than allowing sinners to prosper in the world / the "clirus" is a proponent of "prosperity theology")

Is this some sort of bad joke?

I don't see poverty decreasing. I believe a "soft on sin" approach encourages immoral behavior.

And that has nothing to do with poverty levels, does it?

I would hope that by both the Church and State rebuking sin/evil, there would be few executions, but I will admit that some people will never follow good advice, even from God.

So we better kill them all, and let God sort them out, right?

-- whoa! The Bible mentions AIDS?

Let me guess -- clirus 3:16?

Romans 1:26-32, "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgement of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."

I believe the "worthy of death" is AIDS.

The Bible forbids killing, but I do not believe anything should be done for people in poverty or against people in poverty.

I believe the only responsibility of Christians is to offer Jesus Christ as Lord/Savior with a commitment to follow the commandments/doctrines of the Bible.

As a Christian there is a responsibility of Christians to show personal Christian Charity to fellow Christians.

I believe Socialism (health care/welfare) does more harm than good, because it allows people to survive without having to examine their lives and remove those sinful/evil things that are producing the problems.

Jesus disagrees.

He says:

Then the King will tell those on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in. 36I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.'

But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed,
because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just. [Luke 14:13 &14.]

If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
[Matthew 19:21]

In saying that we should not do anything to assist the poor you are going against Scripture! Your teachings Clirus are incongruent with those of Christ.

As a Christian there is a responsibility of Christians to show personal Christian Charity to fellow Christians.

And to non-Christians too.

So really, God causes homosexuality!

You are why I left the church. I don't want people to associate me with people like you.

Don't get me wrong I'm no socialist. I think State "charity" does more harm than good. But private charity and donating your own time to help the poor is not socialism and it's what the Bible wants Christians to do.

So, the Christian creed is "We got ours; go rot"?

Here I thought the Christian creed was to follow Christs' example?
