Whoever would do such a thing?

People do.

I usually run into the ones who for some reason cause lots of trouble, get banned, sign up again, get banned again because they still post the same stuff, sign up again ... on and on.

I guess people do for other reasons. Maybe they want to have a certain reputation in one name and still be able to make rude comments with another? One person created a whole set of personnas then caused a LOT of terrible drama with them. Frankly, I have a life and no desire to keep up with more than one of me.

Some sites encourage it as a way to stimulate discussion. A sort of sponsored trolling.

The accounts of people who create a second (or more) accounts. It's against the rules ... one account per person.

The last forum I was at it was allowed. In fact, most of the mods and admins had sock accounts so they could interact on threads without the people realizing they were talking to a mod.

While as an ambassador I don't have all the powers of a mod or admin (not even close lol) ... at times I can see the point of being able to separate your personal self from the "official CF" self. It is a large part of the reason I've turned down requests to become a mod. I appreciate the fact that I can (mostly) be myself here, and I think if I were a mod, that would be further compromised.

But I don't make the rules. And mostly don't concern myself too much when I might not agree with them.

I definitely see your point though.
