  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It may be news to most here, but any Catholic who supports, campaigns for, consciously help or even vote for any communist/socialist party is ipso facto excommunicated.
Considering that is basically a variation on democracy, that's quite a claim. Do you have a source?

First, communism is opposite to democracy. To enfore equality, freedom must be taken away. And never has any form of communism been elected.

Source:

DECRETUM CONTRA COMMUNISMUM
Decreed by the Holy Office of Pope Pius XII in 1949, confirmed by Pope John XXIII in 1959 and valid until today.

Though now that I re-read, I see that ipso facto excommunicated are those who openly declare, defend or propagate the doctrine of communists. Not merely consenting or having voted for them.

Funny. When you say that. The words: bloody US backed coup, Allende, and Chile; all come to mind. Help me out here. Just what am I thinking of? Just why should these words, random and nonsensical as they probably are, come to my mind, in response to your claim?

As bloody as the coup were, Allende was ruining Chile and sinking it into poverty.
Violent and unexcusable as Pinochet's dictatorship was, it at least brought economic prosperity and improved social conditions. That is why so many Chileans still support him, despite of the many atrocious cruelty of his regime.

So, interesting point Lifesaver: perhaps often missed. This was an early example of pre-emption; to save Chile from poverty. I hope that the Chileans were suitably grateful about being so liberated from their own democratic choice.
In the EU you only get fined for underperforming ecenomically: but in the Americas you get militarily roughed up, and lose your national sovreignty. Just different ways of doing I suppose.

  1. Cultural Oppression- I don't agree with a lot of things on my own moral level, but that doesn't mean I should be forcing these moral values on others.
  2. Murder of Organized Labor - So many of these worker's rights that we take for granted were brought into the world by organized labor. These include such important institutions as minimum wage, vacation, reasonable work hours, and pensions. Sadly, labor unions are being murdered right now by the powers that be. We will need them in the future, I can guarantee you of this. Our actions now will only force us back into the struggle as time passes.
  3. Apathy - In all truth, apathy will be one of the greatest struggles for America to overcome. The reason we have such a lacking educational system, for example, is in large part due to the fact that most students are apathetic to learning. I can attest to this. It is boring, dull, and there are only a few classes that I bother doing anything in. Chemistry last year was fun, and I learned a bit. I slept through math and french. Band, I screw off in the back of class, not doing anything useful. Talking and whatnot. It's not that I'm a terrible student for all this, but a lot of people are.
  4. Political Ignorance - A couple things about this really bother me. For example, all most people can really do is to go out and quote the negative, and often misleading ads. Everybody displays the aforementioned apathy, and never really tries to understand anything. Certainly some do, but the vast majority don't.
To be continued...

Good grief, Australlia is the second most conservative nation (the first being the Vatican) and you still complain about people having too much freedom.

I don't agree with you there. I don't think we are conservative at all. In alot of ways we are the USA is more conservative than us (e.g. our drinking age is 18, topless sunbathing on beaches is legal).

Where did you get your information?

World problems:

1. We're still on it, in the sense that we are not on anything else, anywhere in the universe.
2. 18th and 19th century -isms, having fought amongst each other for supremacy, are out of steam.
3. Failure to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
4. All problems are now to some extent 'world problems,' in a way that was never before.

US specific problems:

1. Fear.
2. False dichotomies.
3. Lack of incentive.
4. Lack of civility.
