CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have very Democratic Socialist beliefs and have had them for some time now. The SPUSA, DSA, and other left wing groups and parties I tend to agree with.

Jesus was definitely a radical. I believe a truly Communist society will come about only from the result of Jesus' return! Jesus can only lead a Communist society. Capitalism exists because of greed and greed alone.

I am sympathetic to socialism when it comes to addressing issues such as poverty, or setting up "welfare state" institutions such as universal health care, public education etc. However, I don't think that everything should be nationalized and put under government management, as was the case in the former Eastern European socialist countries and elsewhere. There has to be room for private initiative and restrictions put on government interference.

I believe in some socialist ideals. Universal health, quality public schools, maybe a few others. I guess I'm a mix of socialist and capitalist.

Over here there's a saying that if you aren't left wing under 40 you don't have a heart and if you're still left wing over 40 you don't have a brain.
In my case I'm getting more left wing with age, too, and the same goes for my husband (who is over 40 - I'm not). I've always been left wing but it's getting worse.
