  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So obama believes in the myth of global warming...

Crtics like me and Ivar, by decidedly not ignoring the issue, by decidedly studying the evidence, can only conclude that there is no evidence for the supposition that man's emissions of CO2 have any significant (or even measurable) impact on our climate at all, so any global scheme to 'regulate' mans' emissions of CO2 as CO2 is baseless.
Like you and Ivar.

Ivar is no expert in climatology - his field is quantum physics and super conductivity. Furthermore, he did not say there was no evidence, but that there was insufficient evidence.

Ivar Giaever said:
Moreover, global warming has become a new religion. We frequently hear about the number of scientists who support it. But the number is not important: only those who are correct are important. We don't really know what the actual effect on the global temperature is.

Well, exactly.

Poor will, I always say. Everything always gets thrown at him.

Nobody can say for sure if God exists, there is no scientific proof one way or the other. I think, as a matter of public policy, religion demands that we assume he exists, and also, Do What He Wants, and or, look out for his 'well being,' which never mind how, an elite band of high priests will divine and speak for and let us all know what that is, science be damned.

I mean, the Tribe has never experienced this political tactic before, and is unprepared for how to respond to it.

So we know global warming causes Ice ages.

So what caused the Global warming before there were machines people or even devices to record temperature??

Extreme volcanic activity before man's appearance on earth roughly a few billion years ago when the earth's crust was beginning to form; volcanic activity responsible for developing the large amounts of landmass we see today.

Climate change induced by humans = real

climate change induced by many many many volcanoes/seismic activity/magma activity = real too

Scientists "THINK" but cannot prove the length of time but think About 10,000 years ago but it could just as easily been 3000 years ago.the earth started to warm up. Sheets of ice started to melt

The glaciers that you see now are what is left over from the ice age.

During the ice age the men would set a trap for their food. When an animal fell for the trap the men would go kill it.

http://library.thinkquest.org/3876/iceage.html

So I guess the traps and spears caused the last global warming?? hahahahahahaah^_^

Global warming is a misnomer. It implies something gradual, something uniform, something quite possibly benign, and what we're experiencing is none of those," Holdren said a year ago in a speech at Harvard. "There is already widespread harm ... occurring from climate change.

Luke 21 : 25 on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves.
26 People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens 8 will be shaken.

"It's time we once again put science at the top of our agenda and worked to restore America's place as the world leader in science and technology," Obama said in announcing the selections in his weekly radio address.

1 corinthians 3 :
18 Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you considers himself wise in this age, let him become a fool so as to become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God, for it is written: "He catches the wise in their own ruses," 20 and again: "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."

Baggins >> its okay; Carey is alot older; when he was going to public school, the teachers were as educated as ninthgrade sunday schoolers; he simply hasn't been exposed to REAL education.

Carey >> quoting scripture doesn't change the facts of human induced climate change and evolution.

Also, enroll in the local university; you have school you need to go to. =) People's traps didnt cause global warming; power plants and eingines spewing out pollutantsand CO2 causes climate change.

not spears.

I assumed you knew that spears do not put out toxic fumes and chemicals when you use them; your car does, however. I assume you were old enough to understand this fact; but now I realize you might not be old or wise, but might actually be like nine or eight.

of course I know eight year olds that know spears dont put out toxic chemicals....so.....this is even stranger....

Baggins >> you have reason to worry; if our education system is ran by fools that think humans magically appeared by divine intervention, then yes, I would suggest speaking to your governments, and urging them to ally theirselves with more intellegent countries.

Science has never proven the Bible is not inerrant.;)

Science has proven itself wrong time and time again.^_^

Science is OK except when time is wasted when trying to prove or disprove something scriptue says plainly.

Global warming is happening because of God making the earths magnetic field changes not mans puny ability to do anything to the climate.

I am very pleased no one is taking what you are saying seriously, or as fact.

Science has never proven itself 'wrong'. Science can prove one hypothesis to be wrong; it doesn't mean ALL science is wrong because one hypothesis was poorly constructed.

People like you need ot understand that WE THE PEOPLE CONTROL OUR OWN DESTINY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We control what happens to us, not an invisible force named only by three-letters and eons of people claiming to know what those three letters exactly were.

If everyone just thought "Oh, well, doody-doo hardy-harr, God's in control, no need to worry about anything at all, lets all pollute all we want and drive hummers all we want and spray aresol and use as much styrofoam as possible!" we would already ALL BE EXTINCT.

And yes, Science(geology coupled with common freaking sense) has proven the Bible to be one huge metaphor for something else that people are too blind to see.

Sure I think God exists, but I'm pretty sure He's not as stupid and evil as most Christians have made him out to be, much in the same way many christians have made God here an idiotic hate-mongering redneck. lol when God is more like a hippie-neo-pagan whose sandals are getting too small for her feet.

You honestly think pollution isn't bad for the world Carey? You honestly think that your car is doing the earth some kind of justice?

this is whats wrong with the world; people who see no wrong in the wrong they comit, and thus continue wronging.

Science having a "liberal bias." Yeah, I'd love to see how experiments and studies of global temperature changes have a political bias. How numbers of temperature and carbon dioxide emissions checked over and over again by the most educated scientists on the planet are wrong because you, clearly unscientifically educated right-wing blogger say so? Prove it, don't tell me they're biased, prove it. Right now.

Also, prove to me that scripture discusses RNA, DNA, transcription, the immune system, all proven hypotheses in scientific explorations. Science is about hypotheses that are proven or disproven, just because you disprove one doesn't discount all of it. Man, read Scientific American once in a while.

The scripture is a guide to live our lives but not a guide to all scientific truths. Guess what, the Bible isn't a "let's all sit back and do jack crap because God is in control", if it were, we'd all have died years ago. We'd have sprayed DDT continually because "God would protect us against the harmful effects." Yeah right. God works by educating us and teaching us through our experiments and gathering to not do various idioitic things. The poster above is right on track, you aren't doing any justice by polluting or by not changing your habits to protect the environment.

Actually, they can using the half lives of various radioactive isotopes. That's not a question of "thinking this and that", that's a question of measuring these half lives using current techniques that people have won Nobel Prizes for developing. Hahaha, your ignorance is embarrassing and so warrants this double post. You can definitively, more or less, measure the age of the earth.

So stop spewing this idiocy and read. Or if you can't do that, just do a darned Google search from a reputable scientific source. I don't want to hear some garbage spewed by some random person who assembled a bunch of data they barely understand. I want you to find a reputable scientific authority who supports your view in this. The authority's direct words, I think you'd be hard-pressed.

A hypothesis cannot be proven; it can be disproven, whereas then the hypothesis is changed, tweaked, or adjusted. If it cannot be disproven, then it becomes tested again and again, until it becomes a scientific theory, to be tested again and again and again, until it becomes scientific law.

And yes, I would like Carey to step forward with a university professor to support his claims. I have one right here with me right now besides me, telling me that I'm wasting my time trying to convey fact, logic, reasoning and knowledge.

More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims

Scientists Continue to Debunk “Consensus” in 2008

Link to Full Printable PDF Report

INTRODUCTION:

Over 650 dissenting scientists from around the globe challenged man-made global warming claims made by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former Vice President Al Gore. This new 231-page U.S. Senate Minority Report -- updated from 2007’s groundbreaking report of over 400 scientists who voiced skepticism about the so-called global warming “consensus” -- features the skeptical voices of over 650 prominent international scientists, including many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN IPCC. This updated report includes an additional 250 (and growing) scientists and climate researchers since the initial release in December 2007. The over 650 dissenting scientists are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers.

The chorus of skeptical scientific voices grow louder in 2008 as a steady stream of peer-reviewed studies, analyses, real world data and inconvenient developments challenged the UN’s and former Vice President Al Gore's claims that the "science is settled" and there is a "consensus." On a range of issues, 2008 proved to be challenging for the promoters of man-made climate fears. Promoters of anthropogenic warming fears endured the following: Global temperaturesfailingto warm; Peer-reviewed studiespredicting a continued lack of warming; a failed attempt to revive the discredited “Hockey Stick”; inconvenient developments and studies regarding rising CO2; the SpotlessSun; Clouds; Antarctica; the Arctic; Greenland’s ice; Mount Kilimanjaro; Global sea ice; Causesof Hurricanes; ExtremeStorms; Extinctions; Floods; Droughts; Ocean Acidification;PolarBears; Extreme weather deaths; Frogs; lack of atmospheric dust; Malaria; the failure of oceans to warmand rise as predicted.

In addition, the following developments further secured 2008 as the year the “consensus” collapsed. Russian scientists “rejected the very idea that carbon dioxide may be responsible for global warming”. An American Physical Society editor conceded that a “considerable presence” of scientific skeptics exists. An International team of scientists countered the UN IPCC, declaring: “Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate”. India Issued a report challenging global warming fears.International Scientists demanded the UN IPCC “be called to account and cease its deceptive practices,”and a canvass of more than 51,000 Canadian scientists revealed 68% disagree that global warming science is “settled.”

Here is what many put their faith in.. science

Science is the best thing going in terms of generating knowledge. Do you see those black magical buttons that allow you to post your thoughts around the world? How do you think that happens? The Bible? Did God leave us instructions on how to build the internet? Hardly. You are allowed to post your diatribes as a direct result of the fruits of science. Perhaps some respect is in order?

You know, there was a time when a handful of "scientists" including eminent ones believed that the earth was flat. I'm sure there are maybe a few of those just sitting about now. The modern equivalent are these scientists who dispute current findings. That's ok, but I'd like to see more of their work which I'm going to look into now. These scientists are on the fringe at best and if they had ANY truly convincing, damning evidence, you bet people would be all over it. Don't blame some "liberal" media if the anti-global warming crowd has nothing. They are "skeptical" of it, as I read there, but not completely doubtful.

However, the evidence is mounting against them and any perusing of respected scientific journals will show you that. I have a few Science volumes in my archives to attest to that.

Now, that said, regardless of the validity of global warming, is it so wrong to be good stewards of our Earth? To reduce carbon emission to protect the ozone(no matter how you look at it, an ozone hole is a BAD thing) and to protect our environment. That's what Obama is trying to do, to help us be better stewards, much unlike Bush and his genius plan to deforest in National Forests because as y'all know, fewer trees=fewer fires. Great.

hmm. My bible doesn't come with parenthetical statements.

so how do you know which sciences are "good" and which are "bad"?
