  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I took the BoC with me to the Bahamas, but only managed to finish the Longer Catechism en route. I didn't want to pull it out by the pool - I figured I'm already weird enough without doing that! :)

I spent my reading time there on The Hammer of God. I can't remember who here recommended it to me, but it was very good, so thank you - whoever you are!

...
You are inspiring me to read it from cover to cover ...
I gotta do it, gotta do it, gotta do it, gotta go it ...:)

But seriously, if you do it, I would be impressed.

How they say it ... Just Do It.

Thanks, :)

Hammer of God----very good choice. It's is so interesting to see what happened then is exactly what the Lutheran church is battling now. I was amazed but history does repeat itself. Also reading Walther points out the same pitfalls and fallacies that enter the church and needs to be rooted out. There's nothing new under the sun. Even the new buzz words of the LCMS like "relevent" were being used back in the early 1900's.

There are other works that are more for public consumption like the Brief Statement and Why am I a Lutheran by Preuss.

I've found that the BOC can be fairly intricate and more for apologists and theologians than the average laymen. The archaic language can also throw some people off. I'm lazy and like other sources for more easy reads.
