  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So how is that BLM thing going?

Black Family Structure in Decline Since the 1960s: The Home Effect

Of course this is an opinion piece. But it was the first of many examples that popped up. But it does have sources that show that single parenthood sky-rocketed since LBJ. Now, there is almost no economical benefit for marriage. It is better to have a baby momma than a wife. You'd get more government entitlements that way.

It wasn't just that Aid to Dependent Children became accessible to black women under LBJ (having already been accessible to white women since 1939). It was also the general social upheaval of the 60s--divorces made easy so that "single mother" no longer carried a social stigma, for instance, as well as feminism going in a "women don't need men" direction. It was also that Jim Crow had prevented black men from fully attaining "provider and protector" status and prevented black women from attaining "wife and mother in the home" status...so black families entered the social turmoil of the 60s in a weaker state than white families, not to mention weaker economically.

There is always more than one thing happening.

Unfortunately, Gen Z or whatever is pro-segregation.

Nah, no they're not. Don't believe everything you hear in Boomer-controlled media. Boomers--both on the left and the right--have in interest in maintaining confusion over racial issues.

People have only extended the upper limit. There are lots of people today earning only 25-35K, and they consider themselves "middle class." But there are also people earning $250K who also consider themselves middle class.

The people earning only 25-35K are not living better than people earning 25-35K sixty years ago.
The taxes are repressive, and this newly imposed Biden tax, runaway inflation, hits those with less money the hardest. For those who can afford to drive their own car or take the bus, his war on cleanly produced U.S. fossil fuels while promoting oil from totalitarian governments is a killer. So much money is being wasted ICE Wasted Roughly $17 Million On Hotel Rooms For Illegal Immigrants, Report Finds | The Daily Wire and the crime and terrorism the Democrats are enabling may be the final straw.

I don't think you're fully appreciating the problem.

Consider the dating landscape for a 18-30yo black woman. 1 in 3 (I think?) black men her age are going to jail at some point. If she's interested in relationship with a black man, he's probably got 4-5 other black women interested as well. He has no incentive to commit.

This is why the cycle of fatherless homes continues in some black communities.

It's rooted in a broken education system and an environment where criminals are the ones who have money. It's not one thing and I don't think any real solution can expect immediate results.

Here is another factor: Contrary to popular opinion, those black baby-daddies are rarely completely dead-beats. They usually continue to contribute money and time. Not a full living, mind you, but two or three hundred dollars a month from each of a woman's baby daddies is common and expected.

To be blunt, within the culture deliberately having children by different fathers is method of developing multiple income streams. It has become part of the culture.

But it certainly carries problems that result in a continuing decline in that culture's ability to function. Absent the injection of money and, yes, the order brought by police, such a culture would disappear within a couple of generations.

But as I've said before, culture is a choice. Just like immigrants make a choice to adopt as many elements of Anglo culture it takes to thrive within Anglo culture, it's a choice.

I know quite a few people who chose to abandon that culture, usually because they got a good first-hand look at what life outside it could be like, and saw that it was possible even for them.

A change in the black urban culture (which is, btw, a historical spin-off of southern "cracker" culture). That high rate of single mother families is not by accident, it's not from a lack of education or employment or housing.

Except that you don't see that culture amongst black people who are well educated, have a great job and live in a decent house in the burbs.

Most people are a product of their cuture. I grew up in a working class, solidly Christian, socially conservative area. And wouldn't you know it, I became a reflection of those values. Those of my parents. I moved away and my values changed. Now I live in a gentrified, generally secularly minded, liberal area. And my kids are somewhat a reflection of those values. Those of their parents.

Edit: I just noticed that you intimated as much in the post above.

Cullers in a university professor

Cullers has written three best selling books all published by St. Martin Press. Publishers Weekly estimates these books have earned Cullers more than 12 million.

Cullers has a seven figure deal with Warner Bros television group.

She has a six figure deal with You Tube

She owns and runs and art gallery in South Los Angeles.

Online reports estimate Cullors’ net worth to be in the range of $20 million.

Ummm....

Patrisse Cullors Has Gone From BLM Leader to Author and TV Producer

Online reports estimate Cullors’ net worth to be in the range of $2 million.

2 million....20 million....who knows?

If it’s 2 million...she's got some explaining to do.

Capitalism was at work in the glory days of only say 60 years ago when wealth was spread around. Even a poor kid could afford a Mad Magazine. Capitalism has since been overtaken by Corporatism and therein lies the problem

Capitalism is corporatism. Capital investment into corporations is what the mechanism is.

Don't confuse capitalism with "free enterprise" (which corporations militate against).

Rarely? What's rarely to you?

I get that people think 300 dollars and 24 hours a month is better than nothing, and I'm sure it is...

But let's not pretend it's the same as having a stable 2 parent familiy.

To be blunt, within the culture deliberately having children by different fathers is method of developing multiple income streams. It has become part of the culture.

You really think that's an income generating strategy?

Right. That's not an exception, that's how it works when people abandon the ways of a dysfunctional culture and adopt the ways of a functional culture.

Yes. But here is a problem for ADOS (American Descendants of Slavery): Our young people are constantly being sold that the dysfunction urban culture is "their" culture, and what they should adhere to...even though they were raised by parents owning $750,000 homes in mixed neighborhoods, mothers driving Escalades and fathers driving Range Rovers.

I've been a church leader to black kids like that, and its dismaying that the don't live in the hood and are still susceptible to the media pressure to accept "hood life" as their real culture. To be sure, there are white kids who act that way...but the white kids know it's just cosplay for them.

WHite cop murdered a black dude.

Yup.

Think about it how you want but I doubt he would have done that to a good ol' boy.

Because no white people are ever murdered by the police?

I know that neighborhood and I know the 3rd precinct and it's a racist precinct. I live there.

A racist precinct?

Those cops are trash. They seek to put fear in the hearts of the residents. I've personally been slammed by those cops from the 3rd. It's part of their MO to physically assault minorities in that area to spread fear. Can't stand those rascals.

I'm sure you see it that way.

We've gone from 'Gen Z is pro segregation' to 'I know this guy...' in two posts.

What exactly did you want?

My father is a Boomer and he isn't pro-segregation.

@RDKirk generalizes an entire generation and you don't even question it....I do the exact same thing and you're acting like I'm somehow insane.

Give me some examples of 60-70 year olds advocating for racially segregated spaces. Not from the 1950s....we're talking about now. Gimme some examples from last year.

Because frankly, I've got an endless well of 20 something college students advocating for racial segregation.

So which one was the point you were making?

That young black men are living up to their obligations as fathers....or not?

Then surely the black kids know, and I really mean know that they're playing a part as well? Either that or they're doing exactly what every other kid does: Rebel. In this case against the whole 'nice house and nice suburb and nice parents sending me to a nice school'. We all did it. Listened to music our parents didn't like, wore clothes our parents didn't like, went to places they didn't like...but...

...the vast majority of us, brought up in a reasonably safe environment with loving parents, access to a good education and a decent prospect of a good job when we left school didn't end up living in a hippie commune living on free love, a vegan diet and dope.

Give people the chance of a better life and most of them will take it.

Frankly, I don't keep track of the shifting generational names. I was expecting that you were talking about those in college.

As someone else has said, "Don't listen to what people say, watch what they do."

Yeah...and I'm watching them do it.

I dunno...some evidence? Like maybe a poll or something. Like Pew does.

Hey, I found one. That shows that on almost every metric, the younger you are the more liberal you are. And the youngest, Gen Z are, you guessed it, the most liberal.

On the Cusp of Adulthood and Facing an Uncertain Future: What We Know About Gen Z So Far

'...most see the country’s growing racial and ethnic diversity as a good thing'. Yay diversity!

'When it comes to race relations, Gen Zers and Millennials are about equally likely to say that blacks are treated less fairly than whites in this country. Roughly two-thirds of Gen Zers and Millennials say this, compared with about half of Gen Xers and Boomers and smaller shares among the Silent Generation.' Yay equality!

I've gone throught the article and all their charts and I can't find anything that suggests that they are less liberal in regard any substantive matter. But maybe your 'endless well' of anecdotal evidence will trump all that. Actually...it won't. My evidence poll beats your 'I know this guy...' every time.

This super liberal gen-z is more in favor of restricting freedom of speech than any generation before it...

First Amendment vitals: Taking Gen Z’s pulse on free expression and inclusion

But never mind that....racial segregation...

Racial Segregation On American Campuses: A Widespread Phenomenon

So while they claim to support diversity and inclusion...they actually support racial exclusion and segregation.

That's because they think these two concepts are the same thing.

Your poll would be more useful if it started off by seeing if respondents can actually identify liberal values. Anyone can call themselves a liberal, but it doesn't mean much if you aren't promoting liberal values.
