  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Most of the mods I install are cosmetic mods, such as turning the dog companions into a Husky, or making the snow look better, or the water or more realistic sounds for fire and water or even changing the UI to something a bit more PC friendly. I also like to add weapons from outside of Skyrim, such as better looking Elven swords or (I wish someone would add this one already) Hadhafang from the LotR movies or Legolas's daggers.

Once the creation kit comes out there should also be better companion mods coming out.

I do look necessarily for more things to do, just ways to make the game look and feel a little better.
I gotcha. The UI does need quite a bit of work. Is there a mod to add Lightsabers?
:p

There are some stupid bugs in this game. I've just had to reload an earlier save point because apparently you can't complete the companions questline if you've got the helm of winterhold quest still in your misc quests list.

really? wow... never run into that one. But I didn't feel like doing the Jarl of Winterhold any favors my second time around so I never even got that quest lol I did have a bug with the actual ending of the Companions questline the second time around, but it eventually worked itself out.

Yeah I had to walk halfway around the mountain range before I found a path up.
That is one aspect of Skyrim I am not crazy about. Mountain circling!

I'm doing it right now actually. Trying to find some assassin treasure.

You don't have to actually reload. Provided you get the helm without killing the leader (which is quite easily possible because the leader is usually can't see you by that point), you can get the helm, finish that quest, and then return to Whiterun to start the Companions quest. Added bonus: you've already cleared out most of the refuge so you don't have to go through all that a second time.

I keep getting beat up. I can't get past the guardian warrior at the dead temple.
What quest is that and what type of character are you playing? Also, what weapon/spells are you using? Do you have a companion?

There's always a way to switch tactics to get past a tough part.
:)

Even if it means coming back later when you are more beefed up.

I'm in the main quest, I need to defeat Alduin. I rode the other dragon to the land of the dead and fought my way through. Now I need to get into the hall of the dead heroes to defeat Alduin, but there is a really tough guardion warrior who won't let be cross the bridge to the dead hall unless I defeat him in battle.

I'm a Redguard, I use a glass mace, I have full dwarven armor and I use the fast heal spell. I enjoy long walks through the forest and drinking mead. My companion is Lydia, but we are just good friends. She's not with me on this quest.

I hate to tell you, but if you're having this much trouble with him, you're probably going to have a really really hard time with Alduin. The guardian shouldn't give you much trouble at all, especially with the gear you have, but then again, I've never played as a Redguard, so I don't know what their strengths and weaknesses are.

Good to hear you and Lydia are just platonic.

I haven't gotten that far myself (I'm level 57 and have just been doing a whole lot of guild quests and smithing/alchemy/enchanting) and am just now getting back into the main quest. But! I watched my brother get past that part and he had a hard time. He ended up luring the guardian (if we're talking about the same part, and I think we are) into the water by running like mad as soon as the guardian goes hostile. Once in the water, jump onto that rock and try taking the guardian out with arrows. It took timing, but he make it work.

With a certain quest bonus, smithing bonuses and the appropriate armor perks you can get close to the armor cap with dwarven but if you're that invested in smithing I'd save the armor perks and get/make better armor.
^^ This.

Smithing is awesome.

:)

Finally settled on a character after making a ton of different types. A Khajiit female. Mostly sneak thief type. Archery,Stealth, Light Armor, etc.

Lvl 37 and going back and forth between side stuff and the mainquest. Did some side stuff but waiting for 40 before I go into the guilds to get the best of the leveled items in the game. Just started thieves guild and am now on the second quest in that line. A little of the Daedric quests, though just working on Azura's so far. Btw I would recommend that one as a quest to do early if you are thinking of using Enchanting heavily. It's great for money and the utility of the star is pretty awesome.

Decided to slowly level smithing, keeping it in range of my combat skills. Mostly by after coming back to home base in Whiterun for loot selling. I'd use the leather I'd collect and whatever other raw material I had to upgrade the armor before I sold it. It levels Smithing at a more even pace. Combined with hiting certain crafting spots it's more natural.

Currently got Thieves Guild Armor, A set of Glass armor with a glass dagger, bow, sword, a set of foresworn armor just for kicks, and the Blades set for when I want to level heavy armor.

Perhaps annoyingly getting to at least Smithing 60 is almost necessary if you want a lot of the unique enchanted items you get here and there from getting obselete.

Also found out two neat things recently. Using the early flames spell as a mage in bursts is not only much more mana effecient than holding the button down. It also helps with damage because the game doesn't calculate and display damage from the spell for some reason if you hold the button down. At least it does on the 360. Also learned that using the 10-1 value to weight ratio when trying to decide what items to pick up and not to is very very useful. Though in the early game it's not a horrible idea to pick up most of what you find.

And lastly....the Nord Hero armor actually looks good, just wish it wasn't such low level.
