This might well be a daft question but... You know intuition, we should listen to it.
Am i right that it is the Holy Spirit warning us of something?
Any thoughts or am i wrong thinking this?

IMHO there is where the Holy Spirit dwells in us.

Intuition and sixth sense isn't the Holy Spirit. Those are words that the world uses to explain supernatural senses from New Age and occultism and/or psychological sensations or knowing things from the subconscience.

The Holy Spirit is in our spirits, and He gives us conviction, knowledge, truth etc.

Our bodies, our minds, our flesh, our fears, as well as the enemy, can give us sixth sense/intuition feelings, and it could feel like conviction, but it could be just paranoia or fear. Or it could be our natural instincts warning us of a real threat. Or the enemy could be whispering lies and deceiving us.

When the Holy Spirit speaks, He speaks according to Scripture, to draw you closer to God. God could warn you away from something, but more likely He would be giving you wisdom about it.

Will you tell me about what's going on? Is it fear or faith?

About all sorts of things. When that alarm goes off in your head about people and situations.
That probably isn't the Holy Spirit. He gives you peace and calm, and faith, and not fear. Is it the same as when you feel like you have left the stove on at home?

I've had several instances where I've had that nagging gut feeling and I've always trusted it and listened. I do believe it is the Holy Spirit and to this day, it's never steered me wrong.

I also get impressions of people or situations that I believe come from the Holy Spirit. Sometimes they are for something to pray about, sometimes it's because of something I can be of service for and sometimes it is a warning. Some people may use the words gut feeling or intuition, but for me it's the same as God's Spirit. The difference is the Holy Spirit is soft, calm and peacefully controlled. The impression that is loud, frantic, overbearing type of in your face impression is based in fear. I've learned to be cautious with that impression.

That nagging gut feeling is definitely the Holy Spirit. I have that too, and if I don't listen, I end up in trouble. :/

But when someone describes the feeling like an alarm that goes off, or calls it intuition, that honestly doesn't sound like God to me. Because that is how I used to describe my "sixth sense" when I was into New Age. That was definitely not the Holy Spirit.

Also, there is such a thing as irrational fears that can be a stumbling block for us. I have had to fight much of that throughout the years. We have to use discernment in every situation.

No, intuition is your own spirit self. We are created just as our Father as spirit, soul, and body. The Apostle Paul said:
1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit comes along side our spirit and helps us in our weaknesses. Our intuition is part of our spirit. We worship God in spirit and in truth with the help of the Holy Spirit. The New Age people know and believe in the supernatural, which many Christians do not. For it is written that:
Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Christians say they cannot hear the Lord speak to them, but, they just do not recognize His voice. They will say," Something told me" not to do or to do something, not acknowledging that it was the Holy Spirit talking to their spirit.

I would have to disagree with you. Yes, man is a triune being, but nowhere does the Word teach us about intuition or tell us that it comes from our human spirits. That only comes from New Age. It is a lie that Satan has told people so they will pick up voices from evil spirits, which is divination. It is masked as intuition/sixth sense.

I hear the Lord's voice very clearly, as the Word tells us that Jesus' sheep know His voice. And that is Him speaking to my spirit and my soul. I know that not everyone has been given that discernment, but it is still important for everyone to learn how to discern His voice, and not rely on intuition or sixth sense which is something that I have seen mislead a lot of people.

Emli, Intuition itself is a word used to describe knowing, an insight. It is a vehicle used to describe a sensing that we all are capable of. The vehicle, when in tuned with God can be used by the Holy Spirit just as there are those who use the vehicle and don't attribute it to God. Because you have past experience with New Age culture, the word itself has a bad meaning for you, but not everyone sees it this way. It is a word...a vehicle...God can use our intuition for His glory.
As I said before, the "voice" that comes across from the Holy Spirit is much different than other spirits.

I agree, and then it is the worldly term for how our minds read the situation around us, but I have seen it being misused by Christians. And especially when coupled with the words sixth sense.

What I mean is when someone senses danger, as if God is warning them, but it's simply their minds or the enemy discouraging them. Or the false discernment that a lot of people claim to have, but that isn't coming from the Holy Spirit, but from their own understanding, or even from evil spirits. Those Christians show little fruit of the Holy Spirit, simply because they are listening to the wrong voices.

There is so much deception today, and we really need to get these things right. That is why I asked the OP what her experiences are, because this matter isn't as simple as just saying yes or no.

I think generally you are wrong. The Lord might give us a nudge now and then, but Satan can give us nudges, too.

Yes, sort of. Maybe more. Not fear really. I know occasionally when ive had an uneasy feeling about people if I've not listened to this inner voice, things have gone wrong. I wondered if the Holy Spirit encourages us to be vigilant and aware of anything bad in other people. Like their bad motives or intentions.

Of course. Read Proverbs. It is filled with warnings about being careful and prudent, and especially around bad people. I have been warned like this many, many times. I should have listened, but didn't. A lot of Christians walk blindly into situations because they don't listen to the warnings, they would rather "think positively" and they get hurt. We have to keep our eyes open. If that is what you are feeling, you should use your wisdom and walk away or proceed with caution. But don't give in to fear! Trust that God is with you.

But we can pick up things from other sources too, that can make us give in to fear. Voices that tell us that a person wants to hurt you, when they don't. Or that something will go wrong, when it won't. Voices that cause us to worry rather than trusting in the Lord.

You have to test the spirits, pray and see what God tells you. Ask Him to lead you in that particular situation. :)

I think we agree more than you think. :) But until you can separate what I said from the New Age thinking,we can leave it right here. It is nothing to argue about.

I actually learnt all of what I said here from God after I got saved, because I had no idea of what was really going on back then. It is New Age and worldly thinking that has infiltrated the Church.

I have been praying a lot about this lately though, so I'm sure God will teach me about it from Scripture. That is the only way one can understand these things.

Maybe yes, maybe no.

While the HS can speak to us and we experience it as some kind of "sixth sense," it can be faked very easily by the other guy. So you must be careful.

And the major tactic of the "other guy" (devil) is to give you truth after truth so you start to trust that feeling, then he starts turning it further and further away from the truth. But you are convinced so you keep on listening. Eventually you are going entirely the wrong direction.

Actually, the HS has given me those warnings at times. And yes, the HS can bring even a severe warning with a sense of peace and faith.

The thing is you need to recognize HIS voice and filter the others out of the mix.
