Firscherscherling! I was joking around - riffing on the catch-cry of "flip-flopper" in the political arena wrt Kerry. Everytime I see that phrase I have to roll my eyes and shake my head. I, too, have been many things, and will adjust my thinking with new evidence and learning. Really, I was kidding.

Though, I do think Cat Stevens is a tad boring. But there's no crime in that either.

Wow, my sis-in-law has a place in Elsworth - I was up there this summer! I LOVE MAINE!

Does this place look familiar?

It's a webcam from the Treasure Island Toy Store in Main Street, Ellsworth. Looks like it's stuck at this time. It's usually working.

This is my startup page.
The bridge from Trenton over to MDI

Yes, downeast Maine is my favorite place. We have a summer cottage overlooking Frenchman's Bay. Our favorite thing to do is to bicycle on the carriage roads in Acadia and then go to Helen's for dinner.

Oh thanks people. I try to jump on a bandwagon only to find it never existed.

Did you never wonder why he no longer recorded music after his conversion?

Certain interpretations of Islam say that songs should not be accompanied by instruments other then a simple drum. Following his conversion, Yusuf sold all his guitars and concentrated 110% on learning his faith and following God.

He does record nasheed, Islamic songs, now. I've got every Islamic cd he's recorded, as well as the other artists that record on his label. He also has done benefit concerts for victims of terrorism, as well as for the Nelson Mandela concert last year

This is his label:

He's a huge celebrity in the american Muslim community, and I'm sure this will leave conference organizers scrambling, because he spoke and performed so regularly here.

And, as a note, Muslims are required, by our faith, to give charity every year. Almost every Muslim gives to charity, especially during Ramadan. Heck, I've given to many of the same charities as Yusuf, that are probably now on my FBI file. He is very active in the philanthropy field, and has founded several Islamic schools in England.

He was a musician from the 1960's that, like most musicians of the Viet Nam era, made a living playing the sympathy/activist hand while using passive/aggresive methods to speak out against the Viet Nam war and the government all in the name of world peace.

Wow. Heavy, man.

Ah, yes. Thanks, man. The "beener-neener-neener-neener" rift - gotcha! I think it sounds vaguely familiar.....LOL! ;)

I may not know Cat Stevens, but I HAVE heard of "Cat Scratch Fever". Does that count??? (from Mr. "Shoot it, Stuff it, or Eat it" - NUGE!). Reminds me of the whole controversy over Linda Ronstadt???!!! While everyone was arguing about what she said or did politically, I was thinking, "What did she SING that was so great she'd be playing VEGAS???". Like a really, really bad "Bands Reunited" on VH1. Maybe some people need to stay "hidden" in their eras. LOL! (Kidding!)

Cat Stevens Condemns Attack

Yusuf Islam calls last week's terrorist attacks "unthinkable"

Yusuf Islam, the former Cat Stevens, has released a statement vigorously denouncing the terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, D.C.

"I wish to express my heartfelt horror at the indiscriminate terrorist attacks committed against innocent people of the United States yesterday," Islam said. "While it is still not clear who carried out the attack, it must be stated that no right thinking follower of Islam could possibly condone such an action: The Qur'an equates the murder of one innocent person with the murder of the whole of humanity. We pray for the families of all those who lost their lives in this unthinkable act of violence as well as all those injured; I hope to reflect the feelings of all Muslims and people around the world whose sympathies go out to the victims of this sorrowful moment."

Islam came under fire more than ten years ago when the British press alleged that he supported Ayatollah Khomeni's fatwa by calling for the life of author Salman Rushdie for committing blasphemy against the Qur'an in his novel The Satanic Verses. (Islam denied this claim to Rolling Stone last year).

Yusuf Islam abandoned the name and identity of Cat Stevens and accepted Islam in December 1977, effectively retiring as a popular recording artist. Since his conversion Stevens has worked to numerous charitable ends in his native London. "The fact is I have always held strong humanitarian views; I always stood for the elimination of conflict and wars, and any of those causes that ignite them," Islam said last year. "It is part of my faith as a Muslim to try to help those who are suffering from poverty or economic or political injustice. It's very difficult to ignore humanitarian disasters. The royalties from my albums continue to support my charity work."

(emphasis added)

Heh. We clearly have different measures of success.

In the immortal words of a "Jewish" Eddie Murphy in "Coming to America" - "Ah-ha?!!".

I seriously doubt the guy is a threat. But, let's re-read that up above again. He only denied this LAST YEAR, but the story came out ten years ago?? Um, I guess I would question letting him in my "house", too after he called for the death of someone who denounced the Koran. That sounds "extremist" to me, how about you??

As for the administration being paranoid about any Muslim celebrities, simply because they're Muslim. I again offer: Mohammed Ali??? LOL! Furthermore, I found an intersting article from a Muslim describing his ordeal at being held up from boarding an American Airline flight because of his "Muslim name", yet he STILL describes why a vote for Bush is a vote FOR Muslims, not against them. I know others feel differently, but this is just another viewpoint, and from a MUSLIM:

Something to think about before we continue to try and denounce the administration on behalf of ALL Muslims everywhere. ;)
