  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My point is you still wouldn't donate to any charity that has ties to organized crime or illegal activity.
Shouldn't we make that "wouldn't donate to any charity that has known ties to organized crime or illegal activity?"

I mean, I DON'T know when I donate to someone who is doing a walkathon that the money is going to the charity - and while I trust that the charity is sound and legal...

A lady in Chicago collected several thousand dollars in checks - largely from firefighters and police, I heard - to support her on a walkathon for ADA, the American Diabetes Association.

She had them make out the checks to ADA.

Her name was ADAMS.

She was altering and cashing the checks, and using the money to procure drugs.

Is that the responsibility of the people who thought they were donating to a legal charity?

Your point is well taken, and I think most of us would agree with that. However, there are some posters on this thread who feel Hamas is a legitimate social services organization, and as such, they believe the government shouldn't prevent them from making donations to "front" organizations. That is one of the key issues here.
