For your daily meditation, I have posted the Lection Readings for this week in the Weekly Devotions thread above. I get them from the Year long lection series prepared by the Lutheran Hymnal Project under the auspices of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.

We seldom get Jell-o at any of our potlucks. Carrots in a fruit flavored jelly is just plain wrong, especially if it's LIME Jell-o. Ever hear of Maid- Rites? We get concoctions resembling those. (a loose meat sandwich made with ground beef, among other things)

I've never heard of Maid-Rites. Are those like Sloppy Joes? Kinda like "manwich" stuff. . .?

Thank you!!! And just because the lime Jell-o is green doesn't mean one can "hide" the celery one puts in there! What are these people thinking!!!

You betcha! We had Maid-Rites in Fort Dodge. I liked 'em! :yum: No loose meat sandwiches here in Dixie though...but we aren't particularly exposed to a lot of Jell-o abuses south of the Mason Dixon line either so I guess its a trade off.

Well, had the Christmas concert for the junior and senior high tonight.

They borrowed the handbell set from the Catholic church and both choirs did one piece where they used the handbells.

Senior choirs best piece was "Mary, Did you Know?" They did an arr. by Jack Schrader that was very nicely done. I think that was the best piece of the night.

Senior band started out with Christmas Classics, We wish you a Merry Christmas, Joy to the World, What Child is This?, Good King Wenceslas, and Angels We Have Heard on High. Which was their best, they didn't do anything too complicated mostly stayed with traditional Christmas music.

Junior high band did a very nice Angels we have Heard on High.

I liked the Junior High Choirs On This Still, Silent Night, it was the piece that used hand bells.

Really nice concert.

It is true that you CANNOT hide the vegetables in Jell-o! When I was in Kindergarten, a classmate of mine gave me their Jell-o from lunch (they ate in the cafeteria, I brought my lunch) and my teacher MADE me finish every bite - every DISGUSTING bite as they had put TOMATOES in it! Red jello with tomato chunks. . .YUCK!

I don't like the "jell-o salad" thing. The one lady that does lots of cooking and such at our church had made the "dessert" for our daughters banquet when we had it one year - and it was lime jello, carrot slices, celery bits, and whipped cream - all folded together. . .it was GROSS.

Yeah, at least there is GOOD food.

Still not sure about the Maid-Rites as I've no answer to if they are like Sloppy Joes (guess I could search that). . .down here we also have "chipped beef sandwiches" sometimes called "Tumbleweeds."

I don't mind Jell-O salad when it's made with fruit.

It is the unholy mixture of fruit with chopped, grated and diced veggies (along with FD&C Yellow #5) that gives me the heebeejeebies.

Well, yeah, like I mentioned in that, it was VEGETABLES.

When I got to see my grandmother in February, she had made this peach Jell-o mold/salad thing and that was good.

Ah, so Jell-O is inherently evil. I see! Now we have Gnostic Jell-O!!

But when we speak of the form of Jell-O-ness, do we really mean Jell-O mold? And if so, what shape?

Is Jell-O a substance, or is it the mere accident?

It seems to me that it is a mere representation of the mold it was made in...?

but if jello was made in the image of the mold is the mold evil?...or did something (some event perhaps) make the jello evil?...is there some sort of cosmic struggle between jello and say pudding?...

these are the thoughts that kept me out of the good schools...
