This is awful that you are saying this. I think that the Simpsons are still funny and continue to make my day good when i watch the reruns and especially sunday nights when the new shows some on

The reruns are fine, but the new episodes are way below what they were, or rather, and hopefully, are, capeable of.

The Simpsons is still one of my favorite shows on TV. Don't overlook the social commentary or satire even if there are parts that you might feel offended by in the show. Things seldom happen accidentally -- they're there either to make you laugh or to make a point (sometimes in a subtle fashion).

kudos to the simpsons for tackling gay marriage... most reasonable and intelligent people support gay rights, i'm glad an intelligent show such as the simpsons has decided to endorse it... the reality is that most homophobes vehemently opposed to gay marriage are not intelligent enough to appreciate the humour of the simpsons anyway and although they may think otherwise probably won't be saved at rapture as god hates the intolerant!
i can't wait for the rapture... take me now!

In being a Christian I have learned to separate sin from cinematography. In the case of the Simpsons and Futurama and Family Guy and King of the Hill - i separate sin from the art of animation and from the parody because that's what cartoons are. They're fun and they're parody, they do not depict real life... except maybe Futurama, oh, and Family Guy because my dog walks and talks just like Brian does!

Seriously - The Simpsons to me is not bad. Going downhill? Some episodes still have a ton of laughs while others fall flat at times but the way I see it that's happened in each and every season. I'll not boycott because it's not as good overall is it used to be. And I'll not boycott because they do not harmfully or maliciously put down Christianity or Christians nor do they promote evil. It's a cartoon. It's parody. I'd not want my children watching and if they did I'd want to discuss with them what is bad within The Simpsons and how they should not copy anything negatve in The Simpsons... but as a mature Christian I am able to, because I am armed with God's Word and because my love for Christ is so great, I'm able to recognize what is sin in the world and not let it affect me or turn me away from God.

Great post, and you're right the Simpsons' target audience are not children. The target audience are adults. I love parody and satire, and I'm betting that God does too. God does have a sense of humour, otherwise, why would God place EWTN right in the middle of the Bible Belt? lol
