It's not that I don't like Simpsons, I LOVE Simpsons, and have watched it despite the crud they've thrown at me (i.e. Frank Grimes' son? eh...), but this is just pushing it. Gangsta rap is just stupid. Typical for the Simpsons to do something like this to try and strive for a bigger, more teen based, demographic. *sighs* I'll just stick with the flawlessness of Futurama.

A couple of friends of mine came over to watch the SuperBowl last week because they don't have satellite (that's the only way you can watch tv in the middle of nowhere).
After the game, the Simpsons came on and I told them that they HAD to stay and watch the Simpsons (since they'd NEVER seen an episode! ). Well, they were not impressed, and neither was I really- and I've been a fan since the beginning.

Sarcasm 101 - there really ought to be a wink (;)) if a statement isn't blatantly sarcastic or else it just isn't sarcasm to anyone but the poster. There isn't a single thing in the above statement to hint that the poster isn't really thinking what he typed.

The wink would have ruined the satire. I rather suspect that there is an oblique reference here to an episode of the Simpsons were Homer is round at Neds, flicking through he cable TV, and virtually all the channels are locked out.

C'mon Chris, I'm British, and even I got the humour of the post!!!

Now if I said without a wink: "After work, I'm flying to Mars tonight" that would surely be sarcasm.

I guess the only reason I didn't read the comment in question as humor is because around these parts (CF) there are truly people who would not let their kids watch anything on those channels!!!!!!!! Some statements - how can you really know if they're joking around or not?!?!? In my defense, that looked like something someone might actually do!

:sigh: It's scary that some people won't even let their kids watch PBS.
I skimmed through the thread, and didn't notice the post I had read was by UberLutheran...then I saw "The Style Network"...and looked at who the post was by...and realized it was probably a joke...

Anyways...the Simpson's has gone downhill. There are still some good laughs to be had, but the overall tone in the show has gotten dumber, which is ironic, because the focus shifted to an adult character.

I think it really hit a peak in the "The Shinning/Time And Punishment/Nightmare Cafeteria".

I didn't start watching the show until I was 13, which I think was good-I was able to get much of the humour, and understand the sarcasm much better-which always helps.:D

I have descided to pass full judgement on the season of the Simpsons on tonight's episode. So rather than completely disregaurd the simpsons, I'm going to watch it and see if my theory is correct. So far, it is.

This is by far the most moronic and sad moment in primetime television. So much idiotic rap slang and stereotyping of blacks that Fox should be ashamed. African Americans are protrayed on TV, but so poorly we have taken years back from their movement.

This episode is the worst in TV history. Not even a good joke!

1. I happen to have thought the episode after the super bowl was great. (Especially when Tom Brady came out with the banner that said "Everyone sucks but me")

2. Futurama has been cancelled for a while , although I think it's funnier than the Simpsons in it's era.

3. I knew the post by Uber was a joke:

a. The Style Network???

b. He puncuated it with Dana Carvey's Church Lady.

"could it beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee SATAN?!?!!?" :D

Yeah there are several shows we don't watch and don't allow our boys to watch. The Simpsons, King of the Hill and due to inappropriate things we even discourage Spongebob. This may not be popular with others but there are much better things for them to do than watch this garbage. I may not be able to monitor them all the time but it is my job as a parent to certainly try. My wife and I are certainly not prudes either, just good parents. If anyone thinks what we do is censorship, well when it comes to the raising of my kids into mature and good Christian adaults, I'll risk it.

we were the same as you when the kids were little, now they are big & discerning.
