In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. I didn't get three because it wasn't out for Xbox. Maybe I'll pick it up for PC. Honestly, Pyramid Head made the whole series for me. I've never encountered a character so frightening before in my life in either movies or other video games.

I loved pyramid head and i am glad i saw like 3 frames of him in the trailer. Silent Hill 3 is a continuation of the first game's story, it starts out somewhere in california or something and you travel to silent hill to find out about your past

We saw this movie this afternoon and I wasn't the only one to say "that hoovered" as the credits rolled. Not scary, not suspenseful, bad acting, lousy graphics, potential for quality storyline not lived up to at all, moments of preachiness were so ridiculous a lot of people laughed. (not to mention laughing at most of the creatures that were probably supposed to be scary-or at least creepy)

I'm so glad I didn't actually pay for a ticket thanks to having free passes on hand.

I'm reposting my review from the Silent Hill forum, and then adding a bit since what I wrote was mostly negatives there (since it was around fellow fans, I didn't have to list all the pros since they could see many of them for themselves).

This is going to be FULL of spoilers, so beware.

I have been looking forward to this movie for a long time. This is my favorite video game series, and just to have the chance to see it translated on screen is a dream.

It wasn't perfect. The first half was amazing, the second dragged the movie down. But it is worth seeing for any fan.

They really did make a mess out of the cult. I don't care that movies are a different medium then games, that doesn't mean you have to drastically change the antagonists. While I agree with the message "You can be so hardcore into your faith that it turns you into somethingi undesirable", it seemed to just be pandering to the popular cultural trains of thought at the moment (at least in America: George Bush and Christian fundamentalists are trying to take away our liberties!). That hurt the movie to me.

On a positive note, let me say that I loved, LOVED the monsters. They were awesome. The patient demon and Janitor were perticularly amazing, as well as the Mumblers and the big PH. In fact, every monster really was done wonderfully. So that's why I'm pretty saddened that they weren't used as often as they could have been. It seems silly that they only ran into one patient demon, and one pack of mumblers, and that the mighty Pyramid Head was in only two fairly small scenes, when all these characters are much more prevelent in the games. No, they didn't have to appear constantly (would have ruined the mood), but seeing them more then once would have been a lot better. The Janitor was a great idea, but what was the point? His potential was barely tapped.

The last "boss" was a bad idea. Bad, bad, bad idea. It screamed "boring, cliche horror movie" to me. The CG was just "blah", and it felt very uninspired, and very un-Silent Hill like. Bad move.

Plus, as the IGN review said, where were the scares? The games manage to scare me, but I wasn't scared once during the whole movie. The mumblers really unnerved me, and I felt for Rose, but otherwise.... This from the girl that couldn't watch the remake of The Hills Have Eyes.

Now, I don't think the whole movie was bad. The part when Cybil and Rose meet the first patient demon, up until the Pyramid Head/ church scene, was very good. The atmosphere, rust, and blood was done well too. The scene where Rose first sees a miner strung up on the fence, and still alive, was pretty awesome. And the siren? Loved it! But they dropped the ball on the second half. Aside from the oxygen tent and Lisa scene, it didn't feel like Silent Hill much.

Like someone else here said, I guess that my anticipation was so great, I had expected a nearly flawless movie. But they seemed to have made some avoidable mistakes. Either way, it was worth the money to see it, if only to see my beloved Silent Hill on the big screen.

Oh well. Here's hoping for a sequel anyway ^_^.

Silent Hill

**note I wasnt scared and never expected to be scary(maybe only to the first timers of Silent Hill) but it was DAM COOL**

and btw this movie was based on the first game and some monster were from Silent Hill 2. and Silent Hill 1 is a good game go buy it !

Ok for the people who dont like to read too long..

Good news -

- The Theater I went to was 80% full zomg amzing i know!!!
- Janitor monster was AWSOME
- Pyramid Head was MORE AWSOME
- Grey Child was well made
- Music and sound effects were very good (original from the game)
- The background is good
- Atmosphere good
- The ending I liked believe it or not, it left me thinking so curiously (including everyone whos watching it )
- You will like the scene in the church near the ending. It reminded me of one of the boss in Silent Hill 2

Bad News
- Story wasnt exactly like it was from the game
- Wasnt DAHLIA a bad person from the game?? So whats with the one in movie??
- Pyramid Head did NOT appear for the last time in the last scene at the church scene
- err yea Pyramid HEad didnt appear as much (but hell its Silent Hill 1 better than nothing)
- Some weird acting (not as much but you WILL notice it :) )

Honestly guys, it was an ok-good movie. Or just good. DO NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH!! And as you rate yourself with this movie, rated as if you didnt expect it too much.

anyways... Christopher made a good film that made everyone think after the movie because it has a few symbols that might have a big impact especially for the people who dont know Silent Hill because really I believe they are missing out. Some bits in this movie were just like, made you curious and its just so dam interesting.

I dont think no other horror films were made like this. Its just different, disturbing in a way and maybe scares you psychologically.

A must see no matter what for the Silent Hill fans and to the people whos new. And play the game.

7.2/10

** and yes I heard it was disppointing but from my view its more of 50/50 between good and a bad movie. **

oh yeah Silent Hill forever!!!~~

I saw it today and It was pretty good, but I wouldnt have liked it if I didn't play the games. SPOILER (highlight to read) What was with the ending? Did they actually die when they crashed the car? How could they have been dead when the cops didn't find any bodies in the car? And also, was the girl possessed by Alessa's evil spirit? SPOILER END

Well I just got back from seeing it. My feelings are pretty much like most people's. Mixed. When it was good, it was great. When it was bad, it was awful.

What worked IMO?: Highlight for spoilers

-The monsters were great. The little burning children honestly scared me more than I have been scared in a good long while in a movie. The Janitor's scream was very scary as well. Pyramid Head was freakin awesome.

-The imagery was wonderful (this goes without saying). Silent Hill in the movie was an exact match from the game. Could not have asked for more in this regard

-In spite of what others say, I actually thought the acting was good. Not "good acting" mind you, but good in that the semi-cheesy way they spoke matched the way the characters speak in the games almost perfectly.

-The Lisa Garland cameo was great!

-Cybil's death was very disturbing
This doesn't look like a lot of good and I'm going to complain a lot in a minute, but these few points carry a lot of weight. I was really genuinely disturbed by the above imagery. When I left the theater, I thought to myself "My soul hurts." That is the mark of genuine silent hill.

What didn't work IMO: (highlight for spoilers)

-They flashed back to the "real world" far too much. It totally broke the atmosphere of the movie. I think they could have cut about 80% of Sean Bean's scenes out and the movie would have been better off for it.

-Rose picking the hotel keychain thing out of the janitor's mouth was one of the most idiotic moments I've ever seen in any movie. Ever. It was so out of place and random. Who the heck opens a bathroom stall, finds a corpse suspended by barbed wire, and then thinks "Hey I'd better check this guy's mouth. There might be something important in there."

-The pacing of the movie just seemed very off. It seemed like "now we're in this building...ok now the next one....and the next...without a lot of time to really explore any one location. Cutting down on Bean's scenes (hahaha beans scenes) would have allowed more exploration of silent hill itself, which would have been great. Although I loved all of the monsters, each monster had about 2 minutes of screen time. The children chasing Rose lasted about 2-3 minutes. Pyramid was on the screen for 5 minutes tops. The Janitor only a couple of minutes and the nurses for a couple of minutes. There was more time spent on Sean Bean talking to the detective than most of the monsters combined. That was a big problem in my opinion.
Also, did I miss something or was the weird stumpy monster with the gaping mouth (the one that was in one of the posters) not in the movie? I have to admit I was so scared by the first burned child that showed up that I actually looked away, so that might have been that monster. It really does say something about this flick that it scared me. I am very hard to scare.

If anyone is interested, I found this cool site on the net when surfing info about Silent Hill. Apparently there's a town in PA called Centralia which has been practically abandoned due to underground coal fires burning since 1962. You can see the phots and info here http://www.offroaders.com/album/centralia/centralia.htm. Awesome stuff, I really want to visit and take pictures one day.

If you're talking about the monster with the rather wide eyes and huge mouth, yes, it was one of the grey children/mumblers.

As far as Rose and the Janitor, it seemed to fit in perfectly with the games. I mean, James even sticks his hand in a rancid toilet! So, maybe it was a bit of fanservice.

Did you feel at all that the last half of the movie really took away from the Silent Hill feel? They completely rewrote both the cult, and Alessa became an unsypathetic character. I really wasn't pleased with it :sigh:

I didn't get why the cult labeled her as a witch. They never explained it at all. I thought the last act was really bad. Went totally down hill. I also would have much preferred that Pyramid Head come into the church to dispatch the bad guys at the end rather than what happened. He is the punisher and the darkness came into the church so it seemed fitting that he would have done the punishing. Alas it was not so.

I think, I'm not 100% sure because there were people talking during the movie, it was because her mother had premarital sex and had a child, so there was no father. So, Alessa was basically a "child of sin", and in that very close minded sect of people in that town, the easiest way the children could deal with her was call her a witch. Since witches were burned at the stake in the town's past, well...

Yeah, I was kinda hoping Pyramid Head (or Red Pyramid as he's called in the credits) was going to make another apperance in the movie after the last scene he was in, especially at the last part of the movie.
