  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I found a review from a Silent Hill Forum and a guy posted up a review from Imdb.com about the movie. He had never played the game or never had the idea that there was a game.

Heres what he has to say -

**spoilers**
Having never played the games i found it unbelievable that I understood this movie so much more than those who have played them. Spoilers ahead but not major ones. This movie is more brilliant than people are noticing, and has a lot more religious influence than you may think. Aside from all the quotes, crosses, and churches you see in the movie there is symbolism through out this whollle movie right down to everyone's names. First and foremost, this movie is about heaven and hell, but is mainly themed around the relationship of mother and child, and constantly references the madonna, the virgin mary. Even the names of the main characters, Rose and Sharon,..."Rose of Sharon" is another name for the madonna. Cybill, bringer of truth. Christabella beautiful chirst and so much more. It also weighs heavy on the number three as a reference to the trinity. There are three ghosts of Alessa the demon responsible for silent hill. The father, son, and holy ghost. They all represent a part of Alessa, but are seperate. Then there are the three dimmensions which reference Heaven, Purgatory and Hell. The real world is the world where Christopher Dasilva is in. To me this world represents heaven. It is the world that Rose, Sharon and Cybill leave behind to go onto their personal journeys. Then there is the gray world. The neutral world between black and white. The area where sould wait to be judged. This is what i interpreted as Purgatory. Finally there is the dark world. Hell. The area where nothing but truth is revealed. (all the monsters in silent hill were once real people who were residents of silent hill but have been difigured to show their true selves. Only truth is revealed in Silent Hill which. Pyramid Head, one of the monsters in this movie, A pyramid has three sides, another reference to the trinity, reveals truth, sometimes more literal that figurative. for instance the scene where he strips anna of her wickedness (those who have seen the movie know what i'm talking about) then there are all the barb wires (crown of thorns anyone?) i could go on forever about everything in this movie. I just can't believe people are sooo blind to how brilliant this movie really is. It was beautifully shot and the ending, wow. i understood the ending. let's if you do. It's shakespeare. It's open to many different interpretations, and may mean something different to each and everyone. but there is no wrong answer about silent hill. it is a place where truth is revealed.

Maybe the other reason why it was Rated R because the fact that it might be for "matured" audience so they could understand the movie better. After reading this, I understood the concept of the story and what Christopher is trying to show. Silent Hill the game IS full of symbols and visuals believe it or not.

Also I think maybe some people were just close minded and never thought about how it make sense in the first palce. Honestly, I was still thinking aobut this movie afther the day I saw it.

I don't know. I just can't get past the fact that they changed a great deal of the story. Christophe said he had to sacrifice key elements of the game in favor of making a better movie, or something like that. That seems to indicate that this story was their second choice on how to spin this movie. And ok, I can see that this symbolism this person pointed out, it seems accurate enough. It just wasn't a good enough movie to call it "brilliant" (and I so wish that I could, I was one of its biggest advocates).

I feel like Gans just took the easy way out, making the cult much more...safe, as someone else said on the SHF. This person is saying it's brilliant, but I can't buy it, especially from someone who doesn't know the mythology of the games, and how rich the story could have been.

Call me a snob or overcritical, I'm sorry. I just can't let Gans off the hook that easily. I feel like he really dropped the ball on what could have been a much better movie. It makes sense, sure. But was it worth it?

...ok. It was worth it to see Pyramid Head/patient demons/the nightmare realm on the big screen. But besides that... ;)

I went to see it last sunday with my brother and it was seriously messed, I liked but I do agree that there were definitely things that they could have done better with the movie. Also the last scene in the church, spoiler*****Highlight to read
I mean I like gore and all, but that was really almost enough to be tasteless, just disturbing and way too much gore for me.......... ohhh and pyramid head ripping th eskin off that girl....well I can almost see her deserving it, but still that was horrific.
