Who here is freaking out trying to wait for Silent Hill? April is way too far off.....this thing looks amazing.

.InnerPhyre said:Well I just got back from seeing it. My feelings are pretty much like most people's. Mixed. When it was good, it was great. When it was bad, it was awful.
What worked IMO?: Highlight for spoilers
-The monsters were great. The little burning children honestly scared me more than I have been scared in a good long while in a movie. The Janitor's scream was very scary as well. Pyramid Head was freakin awesome.
-The imagery was wonderful (this goes without saying). Silent Hill in the movie was an exact match from the game. Could not have asked for more in this regard
-In spite of what others say, I actually thought the acting was good. Not "good acting" mind you, but good in that the semi-cheesy way they spoke matched the way the characters speak in the games almost perfectly.
-The Lisa Garland cameo was great!
-Cybil's death was very disturbing
This doesn't look like a lot of good and I'm going to complain a lot in a minute, but these few points carry a lot of weight. I was really genuinely disturbed by the above imagery. When I left the theater, I thought to myself "My soul hurts." That is the mark of genuine silent hill.
What didn't work IMO: (highlight for spoilers)
-They flashed back to the "real world" far too much. It totally broke the atmosphere of the movie. I think they could have cut about 80% of Sean Bean's scenes out and the movie would have been better off for it.
-Rose picking the hotel keychain thing out of the janitor's mouth was one of the most idiotic moments I've ever seen in any movie. Ever. It was so out of place and random. Who the heck opens a bathroom stall, finds a corpse suspended by barbed wire, and then thinks "Hey I'd better check this guy's mouth. There might be something important in there."
-The pacing of the movie just seemed very off. It seemed like "now we're in this building...ok now the next one....and the next...without a lot of time to really explore any one location. Cutting down on Bean's scenes (hahaha beans scenes) would have allowed more exploration of silent hill itself, which would have been great. Although I loved all of the monsters, each monster had about 2 minutes of screen time. The children chasing Rose lasted about 2-3 minutes. Pyramid was on the screen for 5 minutes tops. The Janitor only a couple of minutes and the nurses for a couple of minutes. There was more time spent on Sean Bean talking to the detective than most of the monsters combined. That was a big problem in my opinion.
Also, did I miss something or was the weird stumpy monster with the gaping mouth (the one that was in one of the posters) not in the movie? I have to admit I was so scared by the first burned child that showed up that I actually looked away, so that might have been that monster. It really does say something about this flick that it scared me. I am very hard to scare.

BlackLamb said:If you're talking about the monster with the rather wide eyes and huge mouth, yes, it was one of the grey children/mumblers.
As far as Rose and the Janitor, it seemed to fit in perfectly with the games. I mean, James even sticks his hand in a rancid toilet! So, maybe it was a bit of fanservice.
Did you feel at all that the last half of the movie really took away from the Silent Hill feel? They completely rewrote both the cult, and Alessa became an unsypathetic character. I really wasn't pleased with it![]()
InnerPhyre said:I didn't get why the cult labeled her as a witch. They never explained it at all.
I thought the last act was really bad. Went totally down hill. I also would have much preferred that Pyramid Head come into the church to dispatch the bad guys at the end rather than what happened. He is the punisher and the darkness came into the church so it seemed fitting that he would have done the punishing. Alas it was not so.
