  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

‘Sicko’ was a Gr8 film. We saw it today. This film is about real people with real problems and no one to help them even though they had health insurance. Thanks to Michael Moore we heard the truth. A CEO of a health insurance company made 1.6 billion dollars in one year by denying service to people. We need a law and we need some CEO’s in jail.

Truth? Hahaha! Take a look at both sides before you talk about truth.

The lady that lost her daughter because that first hospital would not help her, are you going to say she was not telling the truth?

The man without insurance that cut off two of his fingers in a sawing accident. Had the money to have one finger reattached and the other was disposed of, do you think he wasn’t telling the truth?

Do you want to look at the other side of the woman that was denied a claim for a serious illness because she didn’t name ALL her illnesses in the past illnesses column? She had a yeast infection years ago and that was the reason the insurance denied her claim.

The other side is this...

Do you really think that getting the Federal government..those that have given you the US Postal service and FEMA...involved in health care will make the health care system better?

I haven't seen any of Moore's propaganda films, and I don't plan on seeing any of them.

Anyway, what Moore failed to point out is that the hospitals that the common people in Cuba go to are run down and poorly equipped. Only the elite in Cuba are permitted to go to the better hospitals.

Socialized medicine is a failure. One in-depth look at Europe will prove that point.

The answer is “YES, YES and YES.” How could they do worst? What we have now is killing people. Did you see ‘Sicko’? What goes on now is criminal.

Do you believe people should get bonuses for denying sick and dying people medical or hospital service?

Do you believe the CEO’s should get yearly salaries of 1.6 billion dollars by denying people medical services?

The film we are talking about, ‘Sicko’, is a film about people with real health problems. The people themselves step in front of the camera and tell their stories and you are saying you will not listen to them because Michael Moore is holding the camera. How sad is that?

A 108-year-old British woman has been told by health authorities she will have to wait at least 18 months to get a new hearing aid.

Olive Beal has been having problems with her five-year-old analogue hearing aid and hopes a new digital one will help cut out annoying background noise and other interferences.

But she and her family were shocked when health workers told them the former piano teacher would have to wait at least another 18 months before she could upgrade.

"I could be dead by then," Mrs Beal told The Guardian newspaper.

Mrs Beal's granddaughter Maria Scott said she thought health authorities would have taken her grandmother's age into account so she could get a new state-funded hearing aid, which would cost about STG1,000 ($A2,390) to buy.

"Olive has worked hard from the age of 16 to her late 60s and paid taxes," Ms Scott said.

"She has been healthy all her life and lived with her daughter until 15 years ago - she has never sponged off the state.

"I thought a 108-year-old deserved to be treated better than this."

You have no imagination, do you? ;)

I agree that the system isn't great. My point is that getting the government involved won't help...in fact, that while it may indeed benefit some, the system would become worse for most everybody else. The last really successful Federal program was World War Two. (Thank you, George Will!)

Anyway...we're drifting from the movie Sicko into the wider discussion of universal health care. We should probably continue the discussion in another place if you'd like.

I think the film did that as well.

Under the US system how long would she have to wait to get one?

Would it be free of charge at delivery? Bare in mind she already has an analog aid so would here insurance company foot the bill?
If not how much would it cost?

Actually, my mother has been told she needs a hearing aid. Her insurance doesn't cover it so she lives without one. That British lady has a hearing aid, even if it doesn't work as well as it could.

A friend of mine just spent four days in the hospital after being admitted for stomach pains that were traced to a "mass" on her innards. She was not allowed to leave the hospital. Now her insurance company (the premiums for which cost her 35% of her income) says she should have been scheduled for admittance and they won't pay for the stay, any of the tests, or any of the drugs she was given. So apparently the insurance company knows more than her doctor about what is necessary for good health.

I don't need to see Sicko. I live it on a daily basis. But I probably will see it eventually. I have liked all the other MM films I have seen. I agree with the poster who said they would like to see more proposed solutions. What's the point in being informed and outraged if there still isn't anything that can be done???
