Kirk Cameron (Ray Comfort's friend) has claimed that if evolution is true, then we should find a Crocoduck in the fossil record. That is, a creature that was half crocodile and half duck. However, since the theory of evolution does not claim crocodiles evolved into ducks, this would actually falsify evolution.

Now, you creationists claim that your god could create anything he wanted. Therefore, he could have created a Crocoduck, despite the fact that according to the theory of evolution, no such creature should have existed on earth. So, here is my demand. Show Me The Crocoduck! Show me a real fossil of the Crocoduck, or a real live Crocoduck. Show me, and I will become a Creationist!

Here is some background behind "The Crocoduck"

Not a crocodile
Not a duck, heck the "ducklike bill" isn't even duck-like (it's a sensory organ, not a "beak"....heck it's the snout of cute little guy, not the mouth itself)
And it's not a "cross" between mammal and anything else either.

It's a monotreme.

I love monotremes.
Evolution and Christianity are immiscible*.
All Christians are evolutionists just like all atheists are "creationists", right? ;)

*yes I noted the specific word you used here :D

Hmm, is that really necessary? I get what you're trying to do, but still...
LOL! You are probably right.... but Cameron has been nothing but insulting and disrespectful toward science and scientists with the whole "crocoduck" affair. In my opinion, he has earned being treated with disrespect.

*OK. I changed it. I decided to take the "high road." :)

Not a crocoduck, but Tiktaalik roseae is kind of a croco-fish. The fossils confirm that it had gills and scales like a fish, but a crocodilian-like head with rows of teeth. It also had an expanded rib cage and 4 proto-limbs. But unlike the lobe-finned fish, its forelimb (Fig. A) has a radius and ulna, giving it a functioning wrist. Also unlike a fish, it has an atlanto-occipital joint allowing it to rotate the head on the neck. So it clearly combines features of fish and reptile, with maybe some amphibian thrown in.

If one day, crocodiles and ducks would start mating and have crocoduck offsprings, the theory of evolution would be invalid on a massive scale if not totally incorrect.
Think about how easy it could be to violate the theory.

But we've never seen such things happen in the fossil record, so the theory of evolution is still valid and to me it seems it will be for a long time.

There is such a thing as a "crocoduck" in the fossil record. It's not an intermediate form though, but an example of convergent evolution between crocodile and duck and platypus: STRANGE CROC PICTURES: New Dino-Eater, Galloper, More. There're all sorts of bizarre-looking crocodiles on that page: BoarCroc, PancakeCroc, DogCroc, RatCroc, BoarCroc, etc....And let's not forget the Brazilian Crocodillo - the armoured, plant-eating crocodile that chewed its food like a mammal, which is very strange for a reptile.

Here's your "fossil record":

  • Leviticus 11:19 = And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
  • Deuteronomy 14:18 = And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

Silly AV16, that's the Bible, not the fossil record.

What is a kind?
