Thank you.
I had heard about that and honestly, I can see why WELS would take that position. But then in a few years it would be easier to take another small step...
It really comes down to just one more abuse of the government to deny a prisoner religious need.
That's exactly the same thing the liberals are saying to the conservatives. And they are getting the upper hand.PorterRoss said:When will the ultra conservatives realize that as long as rocks are being thrown, the defenses will stay up and the majority of the synod will completely ignore their rants?
I agree. Given the number of different branches of the Christian church that call themselves Lutheran, it would take more time and work than anyone should be required to do. Now if somebody really wanted to spend that much time researching and analyzing every belief statement of every Lutheran body, they are more than welcome to. However, what we already have here seems to work well. I see no real reason to try and change it at this time.In answer to the original question, there really isn't any need to add each individual synod to the category label. The subforum is for the more "conservative" synods, like the LCMS/WELS.....
The synods listed are really just an example of what is meant. They should not be taken to be a complete listing. A complete listing would be way, way too long to post.

Not in any LCMS church I know of, Rad. You keep applying worst-case scenarios to EVERY congregation and it only makes whatever point you might be trying to make less valid. The people you are falling in line with indeed use extreme liberal tactics. I'm glad you have come to that conclusion...FINALLY!!! This is the point most of us have been trying to get across to you...sheesh.
Your the one who has stated traditional hymns and services are not your preference, so it seems you are accusing the rest of us of falling into the modern trappings of the very worship approach that you advocate. Make up your bloody mind.![]()
Happy Clappy is a BIG difference from truly Christian contemporary songs set in a modified Divine service.
There's a big difference also between "extreme liberal tactics" and the truth. My points are very valid.
My LCMS parish is waaaaay more orthodox and traditional than my sister's WELS parish which is less than a mile away.
We use the liturgy and Lutheran hymnody and they have praise/contemp stuff, and they also studied a Rick Warren book for "Bible Stdy" class.
That's it?!![]()
Oh boy. I did my homework and looked at your other posts. You have a skewed idea of what the WELS stands for.
Perhaps you might like to visit our website and acquaint yourself with what we believe. We're not going reformed, that's for sure. Many of our WELS churches have been able to implement contemporary praise into their highly traditional liturgical services, and we use a liturgically sound hymnal as well. Just because it's called Christian Worship doesn't make it any less Lutheran than the Lutheran Hymnal or the LBW or whatever hymnal your LCMS church uses.
As for Rick Warren, I'd be willing to be it was a bible study on the "hollowness" of the book. Several churches in my area (ooh, an LCMS one included) did that study.
I'm pretty well versed in the WELS since I was baptized, confirmed and became an adult in the WELS for the first half of my life. I attended a WELS Christian Day School from 1-8 grade, and was catechized by a very prominent long time DP Emeritus WELS pastor.
This is true.
But you are applying your point Synod wide and that is simply not true at all. Try listening to folks from within the Synod instead of the cry babies from outside.
It's in the blood. I have been involved somewhat in many actions to get conservative presidents in since the late sixties. canvassing, conventions etc. involving Preus, Barry, etc. Every church I belonged to in the last 40 years was involved in a greater or lesser degree to. In the early seventies I visited the Seminix Sem at Grad Ave. thinking this was the way to go. Left in disgust.
So I have a history with pro-active people. I have seen the abuses. This is not something new with me. I'm an outgrowth of seeing the fundamentalism in the LCMS. I've seen the historical critical methodology and other liberal influences within the Synod. The unseating of Harms because of his supportive stance. I saw Preus clean on the sem of Seminix. I was there when The First issue of Table Talk, was published in 1970 and Robert Preus was elected the first President of Balance, Inc.in 1970 and the first issue of "Affirm" was published in 1971. I was there when many members of ELIM left the Synod in 1976 to form the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches (AELC). I was there when Charismatics in the LCMS formed (RIM) in Missouri. I was there when Lutherans Alive was formed in '95 and then formed Jesus First in 1999. I was there when Jesus First and DayStar issued statements like "Jesus First Leadership" and "That We May Be One," obtaining signatures throughout the Synod.
I've been there.
.
Christian Worship, ah, yes the hymnal that departed from a translation and got creative instead to say and "and became fully human" instead of "and was made man."
