I don't think anyone, including Abraham, was commanded to keep the Sabbath until Exodus 31:
13 You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you.

Sabbath was a special sign of the covenant between God and the Israelites after exiting Egypt.

In the NT, Jesus healed on the Sabbath in John 5:
8 Jesus said to him [P1], “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.

Now that day was the Sabbath. 10 So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.”

According to the Jewish authority, Jesus broke the Sabbath and Jesus told P1 to break the Sabbath. The Pharisees saw sins as external behaviors. See e.g., The 39 Categories of Sabbath Work Prohibited By Law. Jesus shifted the focus to the heart where sin originated (Matthew 5:28).

Paul had this to say in Romans 14:
5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6a The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord.

Should we keep the Sabbath?

According to Paul, it is up to the individual believers. Further, we should not judge others about Sabbath, Colossians 2:
16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.

If you keep the Sabbath, are you going to keep the punishment?

Numbers 15:
32 While the Israelites were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day. 33 Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, 34 and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him. 35 Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.” 36 So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The weekly Sabbaths are only a shadow of the true Sabbath rest. Once we have the true reality, there is no need to chase after the shadows.

This is a very sad teaching with some serious implications.

Jesus did not break the Sabbath, nor did he allow others to. The Pharasees accused Jesus of breaking the Sabbath when Jesus in His own Words said He did not. John 15:10. The Pharisees also accused Jesus that God was not His Father and we know this was a lie too. In teaching and believing that Jesus was a sinner (breaking God’s law 1 John 3:4, Romans 7:7) Jesus could not be our Savior, who came to save us from our sins Matthew 1:21, not in them. Jesus was sinless 1 Peter 2:22 and was falsely accused John 8:46. Jesus kept the Sabbath Luke 4:16 and all of the commandments John 15:10 and tells us to as well and is our example to follow. John 14:15, Matthew 15:3-9, Matthew 5:19-30, Matthew 19:17-19 1 John 2:6 Jesus did not break the law of God, He broke the law of the Pharasees who were adding their rules to God’s commandments.

Paul had this to say in Romans 14:
5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6a The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord.
This isn’t about the Sabbath commandment. In the whole chapter of Romans 14, the Sabbath commandment is not mentioned once.

We should obey all the commandments of God through love and faith and the Sabbath is a commandment of God, written and spoken by God, so yes we should keep it.
According to Paul, it is up to the individual believers. Further, we should not judge others about Sabbath, Colossians 2:

Sadly, this is a verse that is used out of context and no one seems to want to add the context back in. There are more than one Sabbath in scriptures. There is only one Sabbath that is the weekly seventh day Sabbath commandment, personally written by God, spoken by God and is eternal. Matthew 5:19-30, Psalms 89:34, Revelation 11:19. The other sabbath(s) are the annual feast days, that are ordinances, not commandments. If you back up to Colossians 2:14 KJV it gives us the context of the sabbath(s) that is being referred to.

Col 2:14 KJV
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

So we know this from Colossians 2:14:
1. They are handwritten
2. They are ordinances
3. They are contrary.

Does this fit the Sabbath commandment in any way? Absolutely not.
1. The Sabbath was finger-written by God (not by hand) Exodus 31:18 Exodus 32:16
2. The Sabbath is a commandment of God (not an ordinance). Exodus 20, Exodus 34:28
3. God said the Sabbath is holy and blessed (not cursed and contrary) Exodus 20:8-11 Genesis 2:1-3
Note: once God blesses something man cannot reverse it Num 23:20, so one would need a thus saith the Lord to do away with God's holy Sabbath day, which does not exist.

What Colossians 2:14 is referring to:

1. They are ordinances that have to do with sacrifices

Exodus 12:43 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover:
Ezekiel 43:18 And He said to me, “Son of man, thus says the Lord God: ‘These are the ordinances for the altar on the day when it is made, for sacrificing burnt offerings on it, and for sprinkling blood on it.

2. They were handwritten
2 Chronicles 33:8 Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
Deuteronomy 31:24 So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished,

3. They were contrary
Deuteronomy 31:26 “Take this Book of the Law, and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there as a witness against you;

Context doesn't fit, yet people don't care, we are only sanctified by the Truth of God's Word and all of God's commandments are Truth Psalms 119:151

They did this to adulterous too, does this mean we can commit adultery too?
The weekly Sabbaths are only a shadow of the true Sabbath rest. Once we have the true reality, there is no need to chase after the shadows.
Until you read the scripture and learn the bible Truth about God’s seventh day Sabbath commandment that is God’s holy day Isaiah 58:13 Exodus 20:10 and is eternal from Creation Genesis 2:1-3 to the New Heaven and New Earth Isaiah 66:22-23. Jesus warns us to not break the least of the commandments or to teach others to break quoting right from the Ten. Matthew 5:19-30. God wrote the Ten Commandments with His own finger, Deut 4:13 Exodus 31:18these are His works Exodus 32:16 that cannot be edited in any way and He made that clear. Deut 4:2 The earthy temple was an exact mirror image of God's heavenly Temple Hebrews 8:5 where lies the Ten Commandments Revelation 11:19 under His mercy seat, so no scripture can contradict this. You say we should not keep the Sabbath, God tells us to Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Exodus 20:8 and repeats throughout scripture do not profane My Sabbath, I am going to place my faith in God.

Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man Mark 2:27, the Greek word here means humans. Man was created on the sixth day Gen 1:26 before Jew, when man was just man and before the first Sabbath celebrated in the presence of God. Genesis 2:1-3. Sin is what separated man from God, but once sin and sinners are no more man will once again worship before the Lord from one Sabbath to another for all eternity Isaiah 66:22-23. God’s will for us in heaven is the same for us now. Matthew 6:10 instead of worshipping in His presence, we worship Him through His Spirit by doing His ways on the Sabbath Isaiah 58:13

Yes, everyone is called to obey God. It’s how we worship Him.

Matthew 15:3 3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6 then he need not honor his father [a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

False worship is keeping doctrines of men over the commandments of God and Jesus is quoting from the Ten here, just like He teaches not for us to break or to teach others to break the least of the commandments quoting from the Ten. Matthew 5:19-30.

We must worship Him in Truth and Spirit John 4:23-24 and not in vain and if worshipping in vain is not keeping the commandments of God, keeping them is worshipping Him in Truth. All of God’s commandments are Truth Psalms 119:151 and if we do not keep them we are warned there is no Truth. 1 John 2:3-5. We are sanctified by the Truth of God’s Word John 17:17 and only God can sanctify us Eze 20:12

16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.

Numbers 15:

The weekly Sabbaths are only a shadow of the true Sabbath rest. Once we have the true reality, there is no need to chase after the shadows.
We will keep the sabbath(s) only when we first "Believe" the Gospel. Hebrews 4:3.
This will take a life time because to "Believe" in someone takes time, efforts, perseverance, and faithfulness. Is not every 7th days as other people think.

Hebrews 4:3 the rest here is not referring to the Sabbath rest.

Hebrews 4:3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

This is the rest in Hebrews 4:3

Transliteration: katapausis

Yes, everyone is called to obey God. It’s how we worship Him.

I put my faith 100% in God’s Word. The Sabbath is a commandment of God and Jesus said the Sabbath was made for mankind.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

I need to sign out for now.

Happy Sabbath all. :)

God said the Sabbath is on the seventh day Exodus 20:10, its what God thinks, so that should be what matters. :)

Hebrews 4:3 the rest here is not referring to the Sabbath rest.

Hebrews 4:3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: what

“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

This is the rest in Hebrews 4:3

katapausis: rest
Original Word: κατάπαυσις, εως, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: katapausis
Phonetic Spelling: (kat-ap'-ow-sis)
Definition: rest
Usage: (in the Old Testament of the rest attained by the settlement in Canaan), resting, rest, dwelling, habitation.
First, Yes 7th day is Gods Sabbath Not Your or my Sabbath.

Second, what makes you think that Hebrews 4:3 is not about "Sabbath rest"

Third, when you quote Hebrews 4:3 "they shall not enter my Rest". And yet His works have been finished since the creation..

This "Rest" above referred to the creation rest i.e. on the 7th day. Read again Hebrews 4:3-5.

The rest in which Joshua should have given Israel when they get to the promised land is supposed to be the same rest as God did have in creation week..that why is still "remains" to enter into it.

First, Yes 7th day is Gods Sabbath Not Your or my Sabbath.
God says we are made in His image to follow Him.

God commanded us to keep His Sabbath day holy, we are not to profane God’s holy things. Ezekiel 22:26

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Isaiah 56:6 “Also the sons of the foreigner
Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants—
Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And holds fast My covenant

Second, what makes you think that Hebrews 4:3 is not about "Sabbath rest"
Context. The rest in Hebrews 4:3 is not about the Sabbath rest. Not every time we see rest in scriptures means it’s the seventh day Sabbath rest, only if context shows it to be. The Greek word in Hebrews 4:3 is not connected to the Sabbath.

katapausis: rest
Original Word: κατάπαυσις, εως, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: katapausis
Phonetic Spelling: (kat-ap'-ow-sis)
Definition: rest
Usage: (in the Old Testament of the rest attained by the settlement in Canaan), resting, rest, dwelling, habitation.
Third, when you quote Hebrews 4:3 "they shall not enter my Rest".
This is Christ rest and the Israelites did not enter due to disobedience Hebrews 4:6 which we are told not to follow the same path so we can enter into our rest. Hebrews 4:11
And yet His works have been finished since the creation..

This "Rest" above referred to the creation rest i.e. on the 7th day. Read again Hebrews 4:3-5.
Christ rest was from the foundation of the world, this is His rest where there is no rebellion. In Christ rest we do not rebel against what He asks of us, which includes Sabbath-keeping which remains (means not changed) for God’s people. Hebrews 4:9 NIV.
The rest in which Joshua should have given Israel when they get to the promised land is supposed to be the same rest as God did have in creation week..that why is still "remains" to enter into it.
Hebrews 4:9 NIV the rest in this verse is connected to the seventh day Sabbath and the greek word here literally translates into Sabbath-keeping, which remains for God’s people Post in thread 'Two kinds of Sabbath rest' Two kinds of Sabbath rest

Are you willing to put money where your mouth is? I am. Are you game? :)
I don’t make bets on anything, especially the Word of God. If you have scripture that disagrees, you can post it and we can review. So far nothing that you have written in your plethora of posts show that we can break the Sabbath commandment for God’s people.

Matthew 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

I already voiced my position and I will let that stand.

Yes we are made in God's image and likeness but not when we are struggling in our sins we currently in image of man until we brought into completeness, through the redemptive work of Christ.

I see you avoiding the Rest in Hebrews 4:3- 5 is referred to the creation work of God..."they shall never enter My Rest".

Does that mean we can remain in sin? Christ came to save us from sin Matthew 1:21 not in them. Through the power of Jesus Christ we can obey Him including Sabbath-keeping John 14:15-18 Acts 5:32

See above, already explained in detail and here: ' Should we keep the Sabbaths?
If God does not work within you or me then sin Will remain. But as He continues His works in us we become more and more like Him until we reach "Righteousness"

You know the OC law points to "God's Righteousness" right? Romans 3:21

Agree, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make better decisions Today to obey Him. Which is why He pleas with us Today if we hear His voice do not harden our hearts in rebellion to Him. Hebrews 3:7-8, Hebrews 3:15, Psalms 95:7-8. If we wait another day to listen and obey it could be too late as we have no idea what tomorrow may bring. God does not do all the work, He needs our cooperation.
