This reminds me of the guy who was so humble, the whole town decided to honor his humility. They threw a parade and had a special awards dinner.
His name was called and as he walked forward with tears of gratitude in his eyes, the comittee stop the proceedings and confiscated the plaque saying it was prideful to accept a plaque and all this attention and on further consideration they determined he was not humble at all.
And that reminds me of the guy who was so proud, he decided to tout his own self-worth. He threw a parade for himself and had a special awards dinner. He called out his own name and as he walked forward with tears of gratitude in his eyes, he prayed thus to himself, “I give thanks that I am not a sinner like everyone else, especially those who disagree with me. For I don’t sin, and I don’t commit adultery. I’m certainly not like non-faith people, I really have faith and they don’t and I fast twice a week, and give you a tenth of my income, fully expecting something in return for my gift, because if you didn’t give back I wouldn’t give at all." And his voice echoed throughout all the great empty hall.
How do you like my silly story?
C’mon Charles. Just because some of us want to do what is right is not feigned humility. If it makes you feel bad because your focus is on personal gain from being good, don’t try to make others look bad for disagreeing with you.
And, anyhow, what’s the difference between feigned humility and outright self-centeredness?

Faith means trusting in advance what will only make sense in reverse.
