  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think movies should be rated "R" when the Lord's name is taken in vain.

You may want that to happen, but it won't, simply because the MPAA isn't a religious organization. ;)

While it sounds like a nice idea, it would be a nightmare to try to define, because while all of us know the obvious examples (i.e. God's name being added to a common curse word, etc), the problem, as it is in labeling anything of this nature, would be in stuff that was blasphemy to one viewer but not to another.

The reason why official ratings are based on things like violence, language, sex, and drug use are that all of those are easily and objectively noted as such. By that, I mean that it's pretty difficult to find an example of violence that could be seen as nonviolent by an objective reviewer. It is fairly easy, however, to find a given example (aside from directly cursing off God) that one person sees as "blasphemy" or "anti-Christian" and have one other person, even a Christian who goes to the same church and lives in the same town, see it as satire, as justified, or otherwise somehow legitimate.

No, they should not rate a movie by whether smoking is in it or not, but if they did, they would have to do the same with drinking.

Funny how, in that quote, they want to give it an R rating for the smoking, but no mention about giving it an R rating for umm... getting busy ;) LoL
exactly. You'd be surprised (or perhaps not) some of the things that get allowed in EVEN A PG movie! WOW.

I say movies with smoking in them should be rated PG, and that they should note at the begining (like on that rating/warning screen thingy) that the movie contains tobacco use. It's not that big of a deal, why rate it R? Though I do agree with Susan that movies/shows should show the problems characters who cronicly smoke (or drink, for that matter) have.
