AlyssaJuliana, you don't need makeup to smile with the beauty that God gave you.

I don't think it is a sin to wear makeup, but it is a sin to be proud. So makeup is shaky ground.

May I recommend replacing makeup with prayer? Usually when I wear makeup I spend about 10 minutes putting it on in the morning and 5 minutes taking it all off at night. Now, I take that time to pray for 10 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening. It boosts my mood and confidence more than makeup ever could!

God bless you,
Grace

It's really no wonder religion is so fraught with OCD and mental illness.

If some modestly applied makeup is sinful then dress like a frump, or stop grooming your hair, and generally ignore how you look. That at least would be consistent.

Ever looked at nature - it is extravagant. That surely says a lot about God and the world He created for us to inhabit.

My wife dealt with the same thing. When she was a teenager she would have acne, but the less she used it, the less acne she had. Also the more sun she got. One day, she just quits the makeup. I mean quit and her acne cleared up almost within 3 days. I was amazed. Her face is darker and so much prettier. The make up can shield from the sun I think, and in my wife's case, it helped her tremendously. I think Women is beautiful the way God made them.

I'm married so don't think I am hitting on you (lol) but I think your beautiful in both pictures. And one day when/if you look for someone to marry. The right guy will come along and will see the beauty in your heart. Which is the more important because because over time you won't be able to stop the process of aging. So beauty fades. Your heart does not (well for most).

I think my wife looks beautiful with makeup on. But even without she looks beautiful despite not having a perfect face (according to the world). I prefer her natural look. I've told her "I want to see your beautiful face!". She says "I have makeup on, what do you mean?". I say "Your REAL beauty beneath the make up! The face that God gave you!".

I apply that to most anything women do like worrying about weight and so on. God made you how you are. He sees you as beautiful so theres no need to try and be what the world calls beautiful. This doesn't mean neglect yourself of course. It just means realize your inner beauty and the natural beauty is what God looks at (and in time your spouse).

You are so extreme John. Humans are the only ones slapping stuff on their face, when we don't need. Nature is smart enough to know not mess with how God created it. The female girl is pretty just the way she is. Nothing wrong with dressing nice and doing the hair. I'm glad she asked this question and seems to have more discernment than most of those writing on it.

The answer is NO. I think you should wear it when you want to just as people wear nice clothing to go out instead of just a collection of old feed bags so they will look better in public makeup serves a purpose for women especially if they desire attention from men ;). I think that many women put way too much emphasis on makeup however as the perfect face only sets oneself up for trying to live up to beauty that may not be internal to begin with as many women feel ugly without makeup so the makeup gives them a false sense of beauty.

Shes a feed bag if she doesn't wear it?

Not quite what I was equating. I was essentially saying that we could all wear clothing that was "acceptable" and didn't improve our appearance at all yet it is entirely acceptable to wear nice clothing even some that makes up for our human "defects" so I consider makeup as making up for "defects" on a similar level. In other words why dress up in expensive clothes for formal functions just wear an old feed bag as looks don't matter beyond what God gave us physically do they?

Let's take your logic and apply it, with a little twist, to all God's natural creation. The next time one of your loved ones has a serious bodily infection, refuse to allow him / her to take antibiotics; instead just let the infection do its thing through nature, as God created it. Since the Lord did not spontaneously create antibiotics, we should not be interfering with God's nature, so let's let nature do its thing in all cases. Your loved one may die, but hey, we have to apply your (extreme) logic to all situations, just to be fair to, well your logic.

Hey, many people have their own opinions about this. But why not look to the Word of God, that has the answer to everything when it is applied with faith and the Spirit. When you read the verse about braided hair or gold jewlry or expensive clothes, it says our beauty does not come from outward adornment, a(s if that is what matters or counts to God) but with all moderation, and a gentle and quiet spirit. I have wrestled with the same thing as you are, and I have come to find that if I don't wear it, I begin to think of myself as better than others because I don't do it, but if I do, sometimes I feel as if I am more beautiful and better than others in that way as well. There are two extremes to everything, and the only way to escape that is not by doing and not doing certain things, because it is still a struggle either way. The only way to escape it, and have true freedom in Christ, is by living by His Spirit, and He is the one moderating everything through you. I see that you want to please God, and give Him everything, and the only way is to die to yourself, and ask God for His Spirit to live through you. You will begin to find out that no amount of trying to be good in Gods eyes will get you anywhere. But Only by the truth and His Spirit. I hope you understand what I am saying, and it is useful to you. In Christ, Rachel

Thanks for the help.. and who ever wrote the tag about me being ugly, Thats fine if you think that You should however, keep your opinions to yourself, because they're hurtful. God made us all in his own image and its a sin to be so mean.

when i joined a bible study group, after they found out I was wearing powder to cover my acne, they told me that I could not wear makeup, so I don't wear make up anymore.
I would dump that group in a heartbeat. There is no biblical basis against makeup.

We ladies have allowed society to dictate SO MUCH of what we should do, be, wear, and look like. Anytime I see a girl or woman take back her independence and freedom to do, be, wear, and look like what makes HER happy instead of the people around her, I rejoice inside :) There is nothing "feminine" about makeup, high heels, shaving, etc. Those are all societal and cultural pressures. You're as womanly as you'll ever need to be, because God made you female. Whether you're wearing a dress or jeans, your femininity is not affected. Makeup is fake. It's fake beauty. People like to say things like "oh, it just enhances what's already there", but if we're totally honest, it's still fake. It comes off when you wash your face. You might think you look better or prettier with makeup on, but who are you allowing to influence your beliefs on what's pretty? TV shows, movies, magazines? Have you ever tried going for a week or a month without makeup, just to see how it feels? Chances are, you'll learn to look at yourself and see a whole new kind of natural, carefree beauty, and the face that God crafted with His own hands. No makeup required :) I know that some people feel pressured to cover up scars or blemishes, etc... but even with them, I'd rather see their true faces, but maybe that's just me. I'd rather be given the chance to know and love the truth, than be enchanted with a facade.

Rock on, Alyssa!!! I'm very proud of you! I've been makeup-free most of my life. I save a lot of money, a ton of time, I never have to worry about messing up my face, I don't have to wash it off at night, I don't have to worry about someone seeing "the real me" and thinking I look horrible, and my skin is incredibly youthful and healthy from never having a bunch of chemicals smeared on it. I think a genuine smile and a kind, friendly demeanor are the most beautiful attributes a woman can have.
