Personally, I don't adhere to the belief that a Christian must assemble with other Christians in order to make sure that he or she has salvation through Christ Jesus.

Anyone have opinions about this?
No I don't believe that either, that's why I said I'm not sure what we mean by "required". Is it commanded we get together with other believers and sharpen iron with iron? Yeah I think it is, but I don't think it's to the degree you could say a lone ranger christian was "not a christian" it just means they're neglecting an important part of their walk.

But yeah, holy spirit conviction and just trusting the contexts and repeated themes, when you read the bible long enough repeated themes can make the meanings plain as day.

Thank you, my dear brother Symph

What is your view of Hebrews 10:25?

not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Well, it is a letter by an unknown author, possibly Paul, addressed to the Hebrews, I am not a Hebrew. I don't find the letter to be especially applicable to my spiritual walk with Lord Jesus Christ.

However, 10:25 meeting together. I am meeting with Christians here. I also meet with them during voluntary work. I should do what is best for my spiritual life as guided by the Holy Spirit. I would like to find a nice, friendly church but my past experiences have put me off. I enjoy the morning and nightly prayers broadcast from the London Internet Church. It's not fellowship of course.

Edit: Regular church sermons and Bible readings were essential to the illiterate.

If your going to attend church, you've got to make that decision yourself, but be careful.
Just because a lot of people tell you it's a good church, doesn't mean it is, study the bible a lot of churches are just cults.
And just because it's a church,it doesn't mean they know what their talking about.
Here's some verse's that show the advantages of studying the bible.
Matthew chapter 4 verse 4
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Romans chapter 1 verse 28
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

John chapter 8 verse 31,32
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, " If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
2 John
9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
Job chapter 23 verse 12
I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Matthew 11
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Luke chapter 21
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Romans chapter 10
17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Mark chapter 13
31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
James chapter 1
25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
James chapter 4
8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Isaiah chapter 45 verse 19
I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.
Jeremiah chapter 9
24 but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.

5 “Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem,
look around and consider,
search through her squares.

So you believe that attending church regularly is required?

Can you provide the Biblical/Scriptural basis for this please?

Yes, I do. It is, explicitly and implicitly. Implicitly, we the Holy Spirit gifting teachers, and we have Paul instructing both leaders and those under leadership.

  • Mark 1:21 - Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught.
  • Mark 6:2 - And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue.
  • Luke 4:16 - So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
  • Luke 6:6 - Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught.
  • Luke 13:10 - Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
  • Acts 13:14 - But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.
  • Acts 17:1-2 - Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures....
  • Acts 18:4 - And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.

I don't find Hebrews chapter 10 verse 25
To apply to me, I've never gathered with those people, and a lot of them are fake.
I'm not a follower of a pastor, I'm a follower of Christ.
John chapter 10 verse 27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

Should I attend church regularly?
You are a member of the body of Christ. God has designed the body so that no one member has the fullness of the faith, so that we need each other. One may be an arm, another an eye, another a mouth. Each joint of the body is supplied by each member. We are blessed, we are saved, as individuals. But there is a special blessing when the members come together in the Name.

We ought to be doing it as much as possible. We are told to love one another, and so prove to be His disciples. This is what the world is waiting to see, whether it knows it or not.

So we ought to be fellowshipping and ministering to the Body AMAP and as often as possible. That's not by way of legalism or formalism, though. Christ defined His church in terms of the least possible plurality: two or more.

If you have good reason not to "attend church", then there's that. But the power of love is going to draw us to the Body, where Christ has promised His presence in a unique way.

What would you say to those, who, like me cannot attend church regularly because of work and children? Here is part of what I posted in reply to this thread:

"I haven't attended church in a while due to time constraints with work and my children. Generally when Mass is going, either I am working or in transit with my kids who I will not bring to mass. They are two toddlers who will not sit still long enough for me to even consider taking them to mass. Plus, my ex-wife doesn't want me bringing them to mass anyway as she doesn't want them raised Catholic. So, I take them to her before her church starts and they attend her church."

In case it matters, I am an EMT.

Because you can't give your money if you don't go!

Honestly, churches are cesspools of stagnant and stale Christians, and it gets worse by the week.

I believe Jesus wants us to meet as believers but never in a hierarchical way that current churches do. We are a body and as such are meant to work and live together, but in a BIBLICAL SENSE, that means meeting as often as possible. Sometimes large groups, sometimes small. Whenever any 2 or 3 believers meet they can "have church".

My wife is attended a church right now where they actually believe the altar of God is the building itself and those who minister must dress in a specific way or else God will punish them. I cannot go to such nonsense.

The CHURCH is defined as the community of believers, and until that community realizes that buildings and "services" mean nothing, then nothing will change.

Although I will say this, I have attended house churches too and they can be no better.

Those scriptures speak of evangelizing, not gathering as a body of believers.

My dear brother, it seems that you have been disappointed by churches.

If that is the case, I am very sorry that a community of Christian believers disappointed you

No, it's not required.

No biblical grounds say that you have to congregate in a building, with other people of your faith.
There is nothing special about a building, that happens to be a church.
It's simply where people meet up.
HEBREWS 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
