This idea was put forward by Economist Milton Friedman and due to my seeing real poverty with my own eyes while I was in Quito, Ecuador from January of 2001 to August of 2002 I returned home to Nova Scotia, Canada determined to do and teach people about some of the really huge causes of poverty.

Could an Unconditional but Taxable Basic Minimum Income of merely five hundred dollars per person per month for life from cradle to grave for all USA and Canadian citizens and legal residents significantly decrease the percentage of women who choose to have an abortion?

Would and Unconditional but Taxable Basic Minimum Income Supplent of five hundred dollars per month decrease the tendency for a woman to have an abortion by merely ten percent?

Or would 500 dollars per month for both her and her future baby for life decrease the probably of her baby being born by a much higher percentage than that?

In my opinion there is no need for Canada or the USA to bother decreasing welfare payments at all if this measure were to be enacted. That is why I chose a rather paltry sum to get people thinking.

Do three hundred and forty million Americans own the USA Dollar?

President Abraham Lincoln certainly seemed to think so and I personally do agree with him.

I believe that the 170 or so BILLION dollars per month needed to enact this in the USA should be created exactly in the same was as how President Lincoln financed the Civil War according to Mr. Melvin Sickler.

x. The Distribution of IncomeFriedman examines the progressive income tax, introduced in order to redistribute income to make things more fair, and finds that, in fact, the rich take advantage of numerous loopholes, nullifying the redistributive effects. It would be far more fair just to have a uniform flat tax with no deductions, which could meet the 1962 tax revenues with a rate only slightly greater than the lowest tax bracket at that time.

xi. Social Welfare MeasuresThough well-intentioned, many social welfare measures don't help the poor as much as some think. Friedman focuses on Social Security as a particularly large and unfair system.

This has issues on multiple levels. First what stops someone from abusing the system, payment for multiple children in one household. Second the stigma of that child knowing your parent kept you because you are getting paid. And third, it is not sustainable.

You are absolutely correct that this proposed solution can create problems but under our present set of circumstances I do believe that the Pro-Life Community does need to be seriously discussing this option as well as how to address the inevitable problems that will be created by this measure that on a positive note.... could help to finance a massive increase in missionaries going out from America and Canada to other nations to evangelize to the best of their ability.

Again you are correct and I admit that this will not prevent a hundred percent of abortions but I personally believe that this shift toward Optimism and away from Pessimism could well inspire more than thirty percent of expectant mothers who might have aborted their baby to decide to at minimum give birth to their child knowing that their baby will not be born into such a economically pessimistic world.
