Should a Christian play video games? What are your opinions? If they are violent and dis-regard the will of God then what about non violent video games? And if they are time consuming and something that you'd do all day and put it before God then what about spending partial time of your day playing them? I'm not stating that i play video games all day or anything or looking for a argument i would just like to know your opinion.

Who cares? God certainty doesn't care as long as it isn't causing you to sin.
I believe God would care if the game you were playing involved sin in it and not causing you to sin, such as witchcraft and killing people/violence. I don't think God would want you to play something that involves something he would hate. But thanks for your opinion.

I would almost say its pointless to try and find games that are suitable because almost no game without some kind of violence is fun. I mean that's the whole point really, playing the game to do things you cant do in the real world.

I remember reading a study that looked at the different areas of the brain and how they responded to two different stimuli: simulated violence and real violence. When a person was playing a First-Person Shooter(FPS) or when a person saw a TV show with violence, different areas of the brain lit up when compared to the person who watched a documentary with scenes of actual violence. The brain is very smart, and things like video games and TV shows don't fool the brain into thinking it is watching real violence. It can distinguish between the two. Therefore, you cannot become desensitized to violence, nor will you become a vile murderer. I would say: play any video game unless it is making you stumble.

What kind of games were you looking to play Koakku?

Well i use to be a video game junkie, i'd play for hours and hours everyday. It's really hard not to get addicted to them but Jesus saved me from that lifestyle. Even the simplest games like Minecraft become very addicting and can cause you to easily sin, such as getting frustrated with it, pride in winning, complaining, all types of things. But i always kept coming back to the actual thought was playing video games itself alone was actually a sin. It says in Psalm 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. Also in Matthew 6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. That should conclude for me violent video games but i mean video games in general. But i'm not sure i'd just like to know people's opinions on this subject.

Well quite honestly if you were asking me this question like 3 weeks ago, i wouldn't have known what to say because i used to be just as addicted to video games like a lot of people. I really don't know in terms of what is in the game that displeases God. And surely as long as the game is not making you sin is can't be bad right?

But the thing is, when your trying to live a Christ-Centered lifestyle, i don't think video games are going to help.

I agree with you games like minecraft and fps's can be so addicting its unbelievable. You always want to think first, if the game is going to take up time that you could be, studying your bible or just serving God in some way, then it might not be a good idea to play them.

This is a struggle for me, i want to so badly go back to playing TF2 and minecraft, but they consumed my whole day. When it takes your whole day up, its best to just stop playing them in general.

The most i can think of as a "good" situation is:

As long as you put God first in that day and put relaxing time with whatever activity second, you should be alright. But you might want to consult other people on here with better knowledge than i've got. I don't want to accidentally lead you down the wrong path.

For me, sadly i just decided to stop them completely because the ones i used to play served God no purpose whatsoever.

If I had enough money or be wealthy enough to travel then work wouldn't take up most of my life. I would like to travel to tourist destination favorites such as Disneyland, Grand Canyons, Niagara Falls where I have never been before. Because I only do part time casual work as a laborer, travelling overseas is not on my choice at all where all my income is concentrated on groceries, petrol, car service and repair, rent, power and water.
So travelling overseas can be translated into video-games where you are taken into strange environments, especially alien planets with alien city structures with excellent artistic architecture such as the alien underground cities in Halo 1, 2 and 3. Halo 4 will be in my possession, maybe 6 or 8 months later as I am currently playing Halo Reach, single player campaign, normal mode as playing this mode does not make the alien enemies too difficult to gun down.
So really, the violence of all that shooting is not really noticeable when your mind is too fascinated with the beauty of the alien environments of plants and forests, alien structures and vehicles, human structures and vehicles of another future and universe .;*;.

Almost every kind of game that exists in our sad time has numerous mortally sinful things in them which make them impossible to play without going to hell. The younger generation especially, but also older people, is so perverted and drugged by these new games that they seem to live for nothing else!

Firstly, there are the countless games who have a person going around killing or hurting other humans or creatures for fun; for example, Counter-Strike, Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Starcraft, Modern Warfare, Gears of Wars, Tekken, etc. To play such a game is not only sick but abominable. Think about it: to play a game for fun or pleasure which is constituted of the murder or hurt of another being!

God solemnly declares that he will judge our every thought, how much more then will he judge our deeds? When we in our mind take delight and enjoy killing or hurting other beings, God takes this as an act in the very same way as he judges us as murderers if we hate our brother, or, as an adulterer if we look at a woman with lust in our heart. What then will God judge you to be when you in your heart love abominable things?

Secondly, there is the constant danger of hate, uncontrollable wrath, and pride in games when it doesn't go as people would like it to go, and this is more true when playing games online. For when people think of themselves that they are good in the game they play, they are puffed up and deceived into thinking that this victory in a worthless game actually makes them someone. This is truly pathetic! But if someone then beats them, their pride and arrogance gets hurt, and they get mad, angry and wroth. Who have not had experience of this in online-gaming? Sure, these things happen on single player games as well but it isn't as common. Online games are by far the worst and sinful of all the games, since they not only affects you, but the others you play with as well. Do you understand now why online games are the most dangerous of all the games? Do you realize now that every person you have affected by your gaming will demand just vengeance over you, unless you blot these sins out by penance, repentance and confession? Giving others a bad example and being the cause or accessory of another person’s damnation is the worst of all the sins one can be guilty of in this life. Every single thought, word, and deed will be carefully judged and avenged the moment you die. You cannot hide from death.

Thirdly, there are countless of games who try to display magic and the occult as not only acceptable but even good and praiseworthy; for example, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Oblivion, etc. Yes in those games, one is even awarded by magic and occult themes for murdering or hurting the opponent. Eternal Hell will be the home of all you who plays such games, for they are all against God, they are all based on breaking God's commandments and doing evil and violence, or enjoying others doing evil and violence. Whether or not you or the world say its good vs evil, or whether it be humans or monsters you are murdering or hurting, does not change the fact that the games in themselves are totally evil and fruitless, often extremely violent, and as with movies, often compels the player to take actions, agree or disagree with occurrences, which in godly terms are unacceptable and abominable. Playing these games will only serve to stir you up towards wanting to play more. Games with much violence and fighting, or with the ability of sinning in pride by show-offs, or with much usage of magic-powers of the occult, or with the ability to achieve personal fame in a fantasy land, or the show-off with skills, as with online-games, are all the most dangerous since they serve to stir up the flesh and body the most in a false and unholy fire of pleasure and thrill. A person that doesn't cut this off from himself will in fact lose his soul!

Such narrow thinking, you know well enough Go Fish isnt the only thing to do lol

Yeah, *I'm* narrow-minded? Right. You have your religious answer above, read it. Sports and all other forms of media are condemned too.

You remind me of a friend of mine who, after converting to evangelical Christianity, took all of his CDs and smashed them in the street, wasting thousands of dollars of his own money.

I don't blame him, if the music is making fun of Christ in any way or promoting sinful behavior, then it was good he threw it all away. That stuff is not good to have, it just tempts you to do the wrong things.

It is narrow thinking when you say everything fun is sinful because that's just not true. If everything that was ever fun was sinful, Christians would have the most miserable lives. There are things you can do that are fun and don't promote sinful behavior. Sports are fine as long as your not trying to prove your better than anyone else. Its hard not to be competitive yes, but there are people who play sports just for the fun of it.
